Beginner soldering iron.

more_vert
So I recently got into the hobby of building mechanical keyboards so I was wondering if you guys had any suggestions for a beginner soldering iron under 50 bucks. If you are wondering how I build my first keyboard without a soldering iron, I bought a hotswappable pcb (GK61). Thanks in advance friends.

For a few bucks more you can get a TS80 by e-design. Small, portable, fast, good looking, simple oled interface and has enough power to do all my electronic soldering jobs.

You can make it a long ways with just a basic Weller. I think I got mine for around $30 and then bought a couple different tips for it. Some rosin core solder and solder wick. Probably all in for about $40
Hmm I think you just need the basics for keyboard building. If you're going to do small things like LED's, then you'll want to pick up a finer tip, but other than that you really just need the iron and the solder. You can use a wet sponge to clean/tin. Some nice to haves: Solder sucker and a solder wick. The little spool of copper to wipe off the iron once in awhile instead of a sponge. Not so much for keyboards, but the little set of clips on articulating arms are nice for holding wires and such. Usually called "helping hand" or "third hand". Should be about it I think :)
