I'm looking for a tent that uses my trekking poles, and want to know which tent is the tallest (most head room), can deal with cold Fall temps (30-ies) has great ventilation, and...is affordable ;-) lol

geniusYou know what? I just won that exact tent!!! However, I hike with my partner, so we use a 2-person tent. I'll probably sell the Gossamer...

Do you need a floor? Look into Seek Outside's tipis. Also, check out tipis from other companies like Mountain Laurel Designs.
I also have a lightheart gear so long 6. It's tall enough for me to sit up in and long enough for me to lie down in without touching either side with my lofted bag, which is saying a lot because I'm 6'6"

Most traditional double wall tents (mostly mesh inner with tub floor and outer rain-fly) are going to require their own proprietary poles for set-up. If you really want a completely enclosed shelter that sets up with trekking poles, you're probably looking at a single-wall tent which will have some compromises with regards to ventilation and condensation. As a starting point, I'd recommend checking out tarptent.com - they make a really nice variety of lightweight trekking pole compatible shelters that are pretty well made and reasonably priced. If you look at their product spec tables, you can compare capacity/dimensions, weight, and center height which sound important to you. Some others to check out that may have more limited variety and increasing price include Six Moon, Mountain Laurel Designs, and Z-Packs.

idoc72Thanks! Will check these, of course I have my eye on the Z-packs, but the price tag is not currently justifiable. If I were to go on a thru hike, that would be what I would get...

idoc72Sierra Designs' Tensegrity is in that same category. My wife and I used the 2 person Silnylon version of this tent for a thru hike of the Pyrenees (Haute Route) this summer and it worked really well for us.

Thanks for these questions! 1. No, I want an enclosed environment including tub floor. I understand this ads a little weight, but I'm also using this shelter during bugs and creepy crawler season. 2. Weight is very important, but I'm not an ultra-lite person. 3. Yes and no. Weather here in Northern Virginia can change quickly, with stormy summer downpours. The no is for snow, unless someone with snow gear invites me on a trip ;-)

A few questions that will get you more useful replies: 1. Fall & cold takes most bugs out of the equation, so would you consider a floorless tarp? 2. How important is weight? 3. How many people does it need to fit? 4. Do you anticipate using it in heavy rain, snow, or wind?
