A dynamic driver is the standard method that speakers and headphones use to produce sound. Basically, there's a magnet surrounding a circular piece of wire called the "voice coil," and when an electrical current is sent through that wire, it moves. The wire is attached to the back of a diaphragm, so when the wire moves, the diaphragm moves, and it pushes air as a result. Vibrate this diaphragm fast enough, and it will resonate and make sound. Most headphones use this method to make sound, though there are also planar magnetic headphones (check out Drop's HE4XX or Ether CX for an example), Electrostatic headphones (like Drop's Koss ESP/95X), and balanced armatures (which can be found in the Drop Nuforce EDC3, for example).
