Really easy to solder with the right tools and a replacement wire. As my first modding project I swapped in a detachable cable using mmcx connectors. Zero reason to send them back to Koss.

I also like the KPH30i's more. I could be imagining it, or maybe my hearing was different many years ago, but I had a set of Porta Pros maybe 30 years ago and I didn't remember them sounding as cloudy as the ones I got a few years ago. I do own both though, and to me, the KPH30i's seem to sparkle a bit more and just sound better. Seems counter-intuitive given the price point and cheaper construction of the KPH's, but there you have it.

AMC4x4Late to reply again. I've switched over to the KPH40 Utility at this point. Super durable, and the only mod needed is a yaxi pad swap for comfort. Would recommend. Also, commenting on the differences between Porta Pro and the KPH30i, main difference for me was the clamp. The clamp of the Porta Pro produced a really boomy bass that, while fun, just wasn't as comfortable or clean as the KPH30i. The KPH40 is basically most of the mods I was doing above minus the Yaxi Pads. A touch more expensive at $40 not including cable swaps though.

Here's something easier.....send them to Koss, with a detailed explanation of what the issue is, along with a check/money order for $9. I about 2 weeks, you'll have them back, just like the day you bought them. Hpoe this helps.

Nope, except if you solder them
