The diaphragm is made of bio cellulose, which is in part a component of a dynamic driver. There’s a pretty good article about this style of driver over on head-fi that goes into far greater explanations. But just as a quick aside it is a superior material that has sound characteristics of both metal and paper diaphragm drivers.

Biodynamic drivers use a bio cellulose material instead of plastic and typically have rubber surrounds like speaker woofers. This will usually give BD drivers more range of motion and can provide greater frequency range and quite often significantly more bass quantity and depth than traditional dynamic drivers.
