20 denier nylon may be seen as 20d. This refers to the thread size used in the weave, I believe. 20d is lighter than, say, 30d and fine for the top layer of the mattress, allowing the overall weight being reduced. This mattress had a thicker/tougher weight pin the bottom to reduce the possibility of puncture by rocks, etc.
