Looking for the right "car knife"

more_vert
I'm looking for a knife for the car console that is US made, has a glass breaker, and is in the 3in blade length range. I'd prefer a flipper over a thumb stud, and either a button or axis lock over a frame lock, but would settle for a flipper with a frame lock. Any ideas?

I'd check out the sog terminus, right around 50 for d2, a functional flipper and it's got sog version of the axis lock. Solid knife with a 3 inch blade.

An Amazing car knife is the Massdrop OL 72 CPM-20 CV collaboration with Pro-Tech, U.S.A. It has an innovative design that has a flipper tank and no thumbstud for deployment. The handle is a very handsome blue annodized titanium. This amazing knife has a integrated a half, "back-spacer," on the inside of the ends of the two handle halves, so that when the knife is put together it has a "built-in" back spacer. Not an actual back spacer but works the same way but from one-piece 3D machining I'm going to guess. The knife has an innovative locking system using a push button release that is easily done with one hand. The blade just fairly drops shut from pretty much any angle where gravity exerts force on the blade. In some cases recoil is possible but with just a touch of personal checking of positions, one can one-hand close with no rebound bounce of the blade. Very light weight. Keeps positively closed when not in use but flips open so easily as to be difficult to be believed. I don't know where the design came from but it is a brilliant idea and a brilliant execution. A simple yet attractive knife that is hard to put down. AF

check out a kershaw leek. 3" blade, thin, flipper, liner lock. There's a ton of different colors.

Look at Benchmade and Hogue if your budget can go to $200 or so. Benchmade for axis locks, Hogue for button locks. A lot of those have integrated breakers. Not sure what the legal implications are for a knife for 'the car console' where you live but you may potentially benefit from specifically picking up a 'rescue' option knife in the event that it ever has to become 'exhibit A' in a trial.

Benchmade has one with most of your wishes but it has a 3.5” blade and it Is $235, that said made in U.S.A. is a costly option with all knives.
