I tried this with a Yamaha RX-777 stereo receiver (100 Watts per channel) from the early 2000s. It has more than enough power. Volume control at 9 o'clock is very loud. The Yamaha drives the headphone jack through 470 Ohm resistors connected directly to the main amp speaker outputs. This is common in old stereo receivers and integrated amps. The result is that they will drive a lot of power into high-impedance headphones like HD6XX (300 Ohms) but not so much into low-impedance phones like HE4XX (35 Ohms).
