Wrist-Check

more_vert
My wrist check today is a Dual-Check! It’s the MDC Military Field Watch Model No: US2-MD-019-S-N (Made By Infantry) and the Apple Watch Series 5 My new MDC military field watch is the 8th in a series of work watches that I’ve bought over the past 8 years. I’ve been on this schedule of replacing my work watch with a new watch on my work anniversary which is every November 30th. As of today I have 34-years with my current employer. Each watch is different but shares some of the same characteristics of the previous watch. This MDC has plenty of functional style with its deep dark grey dial that features a layered look around the chapter ring. With plenty of indices, hour / minute markers, and numbers (both 12hr & 24hr) this dial offers nothing short of multiple time telling options. The work watch being replaced is my Casio Aviator with Slide Rule Bezel Model: MTP4500D-1AV will get a good clean & polish plus a new strap. It will then take its place in the display case alongside all of the previous work watches. Brand: MDC by Infantry Model: US2-MD-019-S-N Movement: Japanese Quartz Complications: Day & Date Case: 40mm Stainless Steel Crystal: Mineral  Dial: Dark Grey w/ Lumed Hands & Markers Dial: 12/24Hr Crown: Push / Pull Lugs: 22mm Band: 22mm Bond Style NATO WR: 50 Meters

I got my first ever Apple watch (series 5) last October as a birthday present from my family. I sport both my Apple watch and a traditional mechanical watch at the same time…..yep, I said it! In my line of work, stopping to take your smartphone out of your pocket could cause you to loose a finger or someone else to loose finger….ouch! I love the functionality that the Apple watch affords me as far as not having to remove my iPhone from my pocket. Health tracking, text, notifications, connections to my smart devices (thermostat, security, and doorbell) are game changers on the Apple watch….I love it. But I hate time telling on the Apple watch, it works, I just never wanted an Apple watch for time telling. Perhaps Apple will some day allow users the option of hiding the clock on the display, I won't hold my breath but I'll keep dreaming….ha! I keep the display (screen) of my Apple watch off all the time and only need to tap it to see a notification….sweet. I own about 50 mechanical watches (automatic, quartz, solar, and manual wind) and love, love, love them all, I'll never let them go. So the marriage of my mechanical watches and Apple watch while at work is perfect. Note: I found a sweet looking 2-piece Bond style Apple Watch strap made by ArcherWatchStraps but the material is so stiff it hurts. I'm looking for a way to soften the strap so I can use it. Have you tried mounting both watches on the same bracelet or strap, like Buzz Aldrin?

I was thinking of suggesting to the Strapcode guys that they develop a Buzz Aldrin kit that would let you mount two watches, of varying lug widths, on a single bracelet. The market might not be that huge, but I'd try it out.

CloacaIf a company would be willing to take on such a strap or bracelet it would have to be marketed directly at customers who most likely use watches strictly as tools - marine biologist, commercial or military pilots, first responders / search & rescue. I'm guessing the market for a strap like that would be pretty small.

The watch has a durable and rugged look but yet appears very comfortable to wear on that NATO. It is looks like a perfect everyday work watch because it is quartz (more accurate than automatic) and because the dial is legible. I love the layered look as well as the military hour display on the dial. Wear it in good health, my friend (with all your fingers intact). I see a Casio Duro in the Display Case of Fame of your previous work watches. That must have served you well. It is a watch that Bill Gates owns or has owned at one time or another.

Glad I'm not the only guy wearing two watches (Apple and Analog) anymore. Great write-up and photos!
