HELP! (SENNHEISER 58x vs 6xx)

more_vert
So i just saw the 6xx's go on sale and i pulled the trigger and theyve already shipped... but right now I'm so torn between the 6xx or the 58x - this is my first run at an audiophile set of headphones. My main thing would be using them for gaming, but i do love music too - music to me is everything. With that said, primarily they'd be used for gaming. I own a sound blaster g6 which is a virtual 7.1 32-bit/384kHz, 130dB USB Digital Audio Converter (DAC). It also boasts Dolby Digital decoding, virtual 7.1 surround sound which both the 58x or the 6xx's would probably benefit from. All in all can someone help me figure out whether ive made the right choice?

First of all, stop panicking; you'll be fine and the 6XX is an amazing headphone. Don't get caught up in the differences and the mid-fi purgatory game; not worth it and it's expensive. Secondly, just enjoy yourself. This hobby is meant for your listening pleasure and not so you can dump money in a bunch of gear (as hypocritical as that is coming from me). Third, I personally believe the 6XX is superior to the 58X. Scales more and is more resolving.

dcha12I can second that; the 6XX is superior. I was having the same debate with myself for a couple of months, and finnally went for the 6XX and I'm very glad that I did. Somehow the 58X feels like the slightly lower grade model, and the price difference certainly bears that out. Another way to make the decision is to compare the frequency response curves of the two and see which one you like best. Below is the best comparison that I've come across for all the models that we commonly talk about and compare. https://www.audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?threads/hd58x-frequency-response-investigation.5625/page-10#post-206788

You will be just fine, other than that you will start wondering what they would sound like with a different dac/amp rig, and don’t forget the quality of the source.

I have a friend who keeps his 58X on his PC for gaming and has 660s for music now. To keep the PC (more;) clutter-free and up the SQ, he put a EVGA / Audio Note, https://www.audionote.co.uk/ , collaboration sound card in it and upgraded to a MUSES02 op-amp for the headphone out. https://www.evga.com/articles/01281/evga-nu-audio/ This is about as far as you want to take a PC,, if that far... noisy hell-storms that they are... but for the price/performance this card is a deal. For just music you want to look at external dac/amps.

erickongYeah i like bass...also...ive heard that for gaming the 58x surpasses the 6xx as far as positional audio goes....and us gamers all know that if youre playing a first person shooter you wanna be able to pin point those footsteps.
HeadCRACKI never use my Jubilees for gaming because I have a pair of SHP9500s with a Vmoda Boom pro mic. I tried once or twice to use the Jubilees but I am too accustomed to the soundstage of the SHP

I'm a big fan of the 58x with a few little mods take out the dampening on the outside and add a little felt over driver. A-mazing

You can't go wrong either of them. Hd6xx is slightly more refined sound than the 58x. Apart from that they are pretty much same. And hd58x is easier to drive
