OK before this even begins.. STOP!
Many myths have existed for many years and while I am sure heated debate will arise I want to ask everyone to respect the rules of these forums. Act civilized. State your point of view, be open to other peoples point of view and hopefully we can at least UNDERSTAND where people are coming from and not just arguing for the sheer joy of it.
I guess I will start.
HEADPHONE and SPEAKER BURN-IN
A topic that comes up for me pretty often and yes.. I do think something happens when you take a BRAND NEW off the assembly line moving driver dynamic speaker with suspensions and surrounds and webbing and run it for X hours. Now I am not saying you have to do this. It may not even benefit you or if there is a change it might be so small it isn't worth even thinking about. But Physics dictates if a precision device has a job of moving hundredths of a millimeter then I expect if it gets used initially then the moving fabric, foam and rubber parts may...
Getting my Drop Senn HD6XX this week. Have an old AKG K701 that I like, but miss the deep bass and warmth. Couldn't resist this purchase. I have been researching 'phones for several weeks, but couldn't audition any because of my remote location.
I hope I made a good decision.
About me...athletic, retired engineer. I still dabble in electronics. I repair and align Tuners (remember them?). Not an "Audiophile", but I do like well balanced sound. Have old Levinson gear and B&W speakers. Oppo UDP-205 for digital. Schiit Jotunheim 'phone amp.Decent LP collection. Play lots of golf and hike. Prefer classical and opera from the romantic period...Wagner, Tschaikovsky, Mahler, Strauss, etc. Still listen to rock.
Can't wait for the 6XX to show.
I've been wanting my own portable dac amp & really had my eye on the Fiio BTR 5. I just bought one off of Amazon. A little over list price but meh.
Can't wait to plug my first pair of IEMs that I ordered from drop into them. They come in January.
HELP!! need help deciding between ad700x vs akg k702 for competitive console gaming
The headphone i currently own is the sennheiser hd 558, and i am looking to upgrade my headset to something better for fps competitive console gaming. Based on the research i've done is that the akg k702 would need something better to power it better. I am also looking for a good amp or dac for my headphone's. I've been looking at the creative sound blasterx g5 7.1 would that be any good for these headphones. The console i own is the xbox one.
I'm planning to get this as my temporary desktop setup, and later on add a balanced amp. Thoughts? Other recommendations? I'm looking to run headphones and IEMs, currently the Argons Mk3 and CA Solaris.
I am one of those that usually use a product, "As Is". In other words, stock cables, stock pads & so on...… This how the product was made by its creator & how it was made to sound. Usually, if I made adjustments to a product, it was for convenience, not for sonics. A shorter cable for better mobility or to add a remote/mic were the kind of adjustments I'd make.
This past November, I took advantage of some BF sales to just experiment with some cables, earpads, etc...... I had one set of over ears that, while I was very happy with them, I inherently felt that there was room for improvement sonically. I just felt tha the stock earpads choked some of the performance in the upper frequencies. I purchased a set of aftermarket earpads that expanded the ear opening & also placed my ears further away from the driver. A better soundstage & treble response were the result but the treble was slightly aggressive on some music. Upon investigation, I examined the stock pads & saw that...
Massdrop x HIFIMAN HE4XX Planar Magnetic Headphones issue with right ear peice
i have had hifiman he4xx headphones for about a month that i got from massdrop.
Recently i quickly took the wires out of the left/right ear pieces (which is fine to do on these) as the right one was sticking out a little.
When i tried to place the right one back in it does not stay, there is a small metal ring that comes out but it is different to the one on the left earpiece which plugs in perfectly. This has caused it to always fall out and there is no sound coming out of the right ear.
there is no way a part fell out as i have looked everywhere in the place it happened.
anyone know what do to? thanks

I'm mainly a gamer and after much consideration I've decided I want to replace my soundblasterx g5. I've had many complaints of keyboard noise while playing and have tried everything I can think of to minimize/negate it but no no avail. As part of my search I found some noise reduction features in the soundblasterx g6 but if I'm going to be spending $150 for one I figured I might as well ask around to see if a better solution could be found for around the same price. I would prefer an all in one solution if possible to pair with my Sennheiser GSP600 at least until I'm ready for an upgrade there as well. Any recommendations are welcome but please provide a case as to why it's better, I would like to use this as a chance to learn more about the audiophile space and what makes a particular solution better.
Edit: I should have mentioned that I've noticed that my friends are able to hear things in games that I can not and I suspect this is due to some sort of processing in my g5. Any...
So after weeks of research, I've decided that I'll get the Toppings D50s DAC with a SP200 AAA-888 amp. I'm pretty sure I want to pair them well a pair of DT1990s, but I'm not entirely sure what other options would be recommended at that price range.
I do mix and master music, but that will be secondary to casual listening since I have good speakers. So I'm basically looking for something that will be nice for causal listening to "mostly" bass heavy music and rarely mixing.
The Dt1990's seemed to fit that description, but I want to know some other recommendations. Know that this is my first hi-fi headphone purchase and I haven't tried anything myself personally and don't really have the ability to.
