The funny thing is if they just used USPS (cheaper than DHL) or FedEx, we would not have fees. DHL is actually even slower than USPS in my experience.... I don't really get it, Canada is a big market, I just cancelled a $200 order cause I remembered being hit with these fees in the past when i bought a $50 mouse and paid more than it was worth in taxes. If anyone has an idea how to get Drop.com attention on this issue it should be good.

Same thing just happened to me, got hit with 50 CAD, but was able to get some additional info out of the Canada post employee, and it has nothing to do with brokerage fees, taxes or tariffs. According to the employee, DHL lacks shipping partners in Canada, so what they do is cross it into Ontario and then ship it COD with canadapost, so the cost you get dinged with, is the Canada Posts shipping charge for expedited parcel within canada. USPS has reciprocal agreements with Canada Post, and any private carrier, but DHL, has its own internal couriers. Wish I knew this before I ordered my headphones.

MaxPointyStrangely I had no customers for my HD 58X. It was shipped by DHL > Canada Post, and left in my mailbox. But for my keycap set, I was dinged with $55 in additional fees from Canada Post. I guess it’s depending on the cost?

Just paid CAN$20.38 on a US$49.00 purchase from Massdrop. $10 brokerage fee, $6.63 in duties, $3.75 in taxes. The problem is, Massdrop uses DHL, rather than USPS. The difference: DHL systematically assesses customs charges for parcels entering Canada. USPS/Canada Post often waive taxes and duties if the amount is small. And if they waive taxes and duties, then they also waive the brokerage fee. So on average, it is a much better deal. I'd have stood a good chance of paying $0 on this rather than $20.38. Massdrop, here is what you need to do in order to retain Canadian customers: 1) Use USPS 2) Or at least tell us that you are planning on using DHL before we purchase so that we don't feel like we've been forced into a situation we'd rather avoid.

snufkin42Thanks for posting. I suppose Drop believe the Canadian market is soooo.. o small that they just simply ignore it instead of streamlining the logistic... .So frustrating for Canadian.

I too am worried about the brokerage fees. i recently bought a Drop and am waiting for it to ship. the total cost so far was only $45usd including shipping. Still, from what I've heard, people are getting nailed at the boarder with additional fees. May i ask how much was your order before you had to pay the Brokerage? What was the weight?

Everything I have ever bought from States that I didn't pay tax on was C.O.D. Nothing fishy going on with drops, just people not factoring in the fact they will have to pay tax and maybe other fees based on Country. For us Canucks though we just pay the tax. *I am in Ontario and based your tax on 13%

bfitzi hear ya. I think at the border it is only GST? At least that’s the case if you are driving across and claim over your limit. I’ve run to that issue before. Lol.
