Anyone have suggestions for fixing flashlights? I've got a Maratac AAx2(rev2 I think) and AA extreme(rev1) that have been paperweights for a while now. I've tried the usual of cleaning the contacts(which were already quite clean anyways), and different batteries.
I wouldn't mind sending them out for repair if it was to someone who could fix them for a reasonable price, and had at least somewhat of a reputation to go by. I had already contacted countycomm maybe a couple years ago about the x2, and they said they didn't have the parts but would get back to me when they did...they never got back to me. I may even just try to fix them myself depending on what that might entail, and what tools may be required.
At this point I already have an Eagtac D25LC2 clicky to replace them, but it would be nice at some point to revive them from their paperweight status...even if it's a while before I get around to it.
Bonus question: Anyone know some companies who have really good out of warranty repair services(hopefully in the US)? For possible future purchases. I've at least heard good things about Thrunite's warranty.

MooTatersMtnelectronics has parts that will fit, the maratac is made by lumintop from what I have heard, and I can confirm any board that fits in a lumintop will fit a maratac. Use a couple picks, after you take the head off the light, look inside at the contacts. Insert the pics into the two holes and twist counterclockwise to disassemble the head. If you can solder, you can fix them.

MooTatersAs stated before me, take the head off & look in to find the 2 holes. Try taking 2 pins or the ends of some small needle nose pliers, stick them into the 2 holes & turn clockwise to tighten it into the head. If it's loose at all it can mess with the connection. I've had that issue on a couple lights as well as once on a clicky tailcap. Always try the easy & free possible fixes first before throwing money at it.

Tony_mThanks @BLWNGT1 and @Tony_m both for the suggestions. Any suggestions other than a needle nose for a tool to take them apart? The needle nose pliers I have scratch them up pretty good since at best I can use the corners of the tip to loosen/tighten the internal caps.
Also for reference the x2 had a period of time for a while before it died where it would flicker somewhat, and had a barely audible coil whine sort of sound coming from it. The AA extreme died from an about 3ft drop while turned on.

MooTatersIf you have a good set of allen wrenches or torx wrenches they should have some small sizes that can fit into the holes & should work for you. A couple small roll pin punches would suffice as well. If you don't have any that are small enough then you could use a couple small nails as well. If all else fails, try taking a wire coat hanger, or something of the like, & slowly grind the diameter down until the ends will fit in the holes.
I have a Fenix that flickered for a couple days then just stopped working. It was due to a bad connection caused by this same issue, only it was in the tailcap & not in the head. It's worked flawlessly ever since I tightened it back up & periodically check it.
Hope this helps.

MooTatersPersonally, I picked up some large tweezers that fit well and remove about any pill from my small flashlights. Mtnelectronics electronics had them, Wei tus #4 I believe
