Need a DAC/Amp for my HD-6XX.

more_vert
I've had my HD6xx for a while now but my current audio device (fx audio dac-x6) seems to be breaking down (the connection point is very finicky where I need to turn the input around every so often to get good signal. What is a good DAC/Amp I can go for that is of higher quality? I would like to keep it to one hardware piece, ideally something clean looking that provides good quality sound

Schiit's product line if you want an AIO. Honestly, I'd go Asgard 3 + the delta-sigma card. However, if you're okay with a tiny stack, the Modi 3 and Magni 3+ stack gives tremendous sound for the money. I heard it blind and was blown away by how good it was for the price (I would have guessed it was a $1000 system). That and the Modi-Magni is cheaper.

I love my Drop 789 THX AAA amplifier. It can power my Beyer DT990 600ohms very very well. It replaced my WooAudio 3 which was lost by the moving company. The 789 is flawlessly neutral, inky black, etc. For all the humming and distortion of the WA3 though it could drive bass like nothing else. For the price though I didn't feel like it was worth replacing, the 789 was less than half the cost and I was sick of hum.

Look at Schiit’s product line. For portable units try Fiio newBRT5 or earstudio HE100

The iFi Zen DAC might fit your bill. It's around $130 . Check the reviews online. https://ifi-audio.com/products/zen-dac/
