I'm not sure if upgrading to a balanced system, dac and amp and cables, would be worth it for me. After several years of using a Filo Alpine and a pair of AT M50s I upgraded to the Massdrop HD6xx headphones, a magni 3, and the modi multibit. I could definitely hear and appreciate the difference. I have also been discerning my ability, I'm older and retired, to hear the differences between diffent quality sound recordings. I can generally, but not always, detect the difference between 256bit or lesser quality mp3s and 320bit mp3 files of the same music and sometimes I like the uncompressed FLAC version more than the 320 bit mp3 file but some recordings seem to sound the same. So my hearing is less than perfect but still good, would balanced equipment be worth it or should I focus on different headphones?

gaknakYou will probably get way more of a change when going between two different pairs of headphones than going between two different amps and for sure more than going between two different inputs on the same amp.
So, if you're looking for something specific that you're not getting with your HD6xx, you'll get more bang for your buck by looking for a complementary pair of headphones with different characteristics.
If you want to dip your toe into balanced and see if you like what it does to the HD6xx, a pretty affordable option would be to pick up a basic balanced cable terminated to 2.5mm TRRS for the HD6xx and something inexpensive like a Walnut F1 or Fiio Q1MKII.
