I have been sewing since an early age and then started quilting in my 20s. I love to design my own quilts but do get caught up in some of the striking patterns that are out there. My suggestion to anyone wanting to attempt applique is to start out with one of the many kits that are available for what is called "raw edge" applique as that is much more simple than "turned edge." Once you have done a project or two and want to expand, turned edge applique is quite rewarding and has the advantage that it can go with you! The only real advice that I would give is that this is something that should be fun and relaxing--that's the key!!!
