Does anyone have a Baby Lock Jazz? I don't see a way to position the needle left or right of center when straight stitching. I also don't like that when you set it on Zig Zag, it moves the needle off center for the stitch. Otherwise, I like the way it sews and enjoy the large throat.

This was my very first quilt. A great place to start. The blocks are big, the fabric was already picked out (kit) and the applique was pretty easy. Tula Pink Faded Hearts.

What a great job you did for a first quilt! So beautiful! Keep up the good work, we need more beginning quilters to carry on these wonderful keepsakes. Be sure to label your quilts. They will be someone's treasure some day and they will want to know where it came from. Even if you plan on keeping it, you need a label to remind yourself, it was your first and you can look back on it and see how far you have come. Good Luck and make many more quilts!

Very nice! Did you stipple it, or did you use something else?

I live in Adelaide South Australia and I’ve been quilting since I retired in 99. I started going to a group but that got too bitchy, have tried two others since then with the same results. So I have joined groups on Facebook which ive a lot more helpful and no back stabbing. I have machine quilted some of my quilts on my domestic machine and loved it but about 8 - 10 years or so ago I tried hand quilting and piecing and fell in love. I also now incorporate embroidery into my quilts. Our quilt designers here in OZ are fantastic and they cover most styles. We have one lady Sue Daley who does the EPP English paper piecing and designs some beautiful quilts.

I learned to quilt about 20 years ago by hand-piecing and hand-quilting. Although I now machine piece a lot also, hand-piecing is my favorite. I have made numerous quilts completely by hand. I mostly use Coats and Clark all-purpose thread to piece and then quilt with quilting thread. Some people recommend only using cotton thread. I am still using the first quilt I sewed and it has held up well with many washings.

I use a regular cotton thread, sometimes one labeled 'quilting' thread. I also use perl cotton and embroidery floss when I want the quilting to stand out.

I am a very amateur quilter . In the past two years, i have completed two lapquilts of my own design of colors . My first quilt was an OHIO STAR pattern and everyone looks at it and says a "you picked ohio star for your first quilt ? Are you Crazy?. I guess i am but that is what i made for my first quilt . The second one was of the Attic Window design and i was proud that i was able to finish that in time for my sister's 80th birthday. I started quilting as something to try. I am self taught using online videos and one of Fons and Porter's Guide to Quilting books. I enjoy going to quilt shows and i have been to the Vermont Quilt Festival in Essex Junction , Vermont two years and the Maine Quilt show last year. i photograph as many quilts as I can in the time i have to attend these shows. i got some good ideas and help at the Vermont show this year to work on my third quilt . l like is said i am a beginner compared to many of you out there but it is fun and relaxing even when i make mistakes . LOL.

Good job. Ohio Star is a little tricky for a beginner. However you learn a lot of the basics with it that are used in other quilts. Great job. I have been quilting for years and still learn new techniques. Take some classes. Even if you don't think you will like the technique, you will find that out without a lot of extra expense, meet people and learn some good tips. I have been to the Vermont Show years ago. I enjoyed it. I take lots of photos too at shows.

I love my featherweights, too, but I just have way too many. I have a lot of other sewing machines, too... hate to give a total. I *won't* give a total count!! ;)

I didn't think there was that much sewing involved because of how you cut it... that's really neat I love your color palette!!

I found flowers are easier. There's a lot of forgiveness if they aren't perfect. As with all quilting, you need to decide what works for you. And how good is "good enough" for you. It's your art. The joy is in the journey.

If you are very inexperienced with quilting as I am, I have been quilting off and on for 4 years, I have found that some of the quilt patterns by Eleanor Burns are very easy to follow instructions and make a very nice looking quilt. I would recommend the book, "Quick Trip". I have used this book to make a queen sized quilt, a twin sized and a crib sized quilt. They all turned out very nice. If you are just starting, take a look at this book.
