Introducing Drop + THX AAA ONE Linear Amplifier

With the success of the AAA™ 789 Linear Amplifier (and now the Panda Wireless Headphones), our partnership with THX is only getting stronger. Now, we’re excited to announce our latest collaboration: the Drop + THX AAA™ ONE Linear Amplifier.  The ONE will be the new entry point for ultra-clean, linear sound in a desktop headphone amplifier. Just like the 789, it’s designed to optimize your audio experience. While the 789 provides more power with its balanced design, the ONE will still drive most headphones with ease. It’s also built with an all-metal enclosure to protect the technology inside. Now we’re including a pre-amplifier output that allows you to connect the amp to a powered speaker and switch back and forth between headphones and speakers on the fly.  Here are some other highlights:
  • Ultra-low distortion AAA™ circuit with high-voltage swing
  • Ultra-low noise THX architecture (less than 1 uV of output noise)
  • Power to drive demanding headphones with ease (Up to 2000 mW at 32 Ohms, 1000 mW at 16 Ohms, and 275 mW at 300 Ohms)
  • 3-position gain switch (allows for fine-tuning of signal-to-noise with any headphone or IEM)
  • Ultra-low noise pre-amplifier output (Use the ONE to drive active desktop speakers or a dedicated power amplifier in a home stereo setup, and easily switch between headphone-out and pre-out with a dedicated button)
  • High-quality aluminium chassis (which also works to shield the electronics from RF and other external noise)
  • $199 MSRP Target
We can’t wait to bring this amp to market. Stay tuned for more updates in the coming weeks—and as always, if you have any questions or comments, leave them below. Best, The Drop Team

Is there a rearview, so we can see the connections to be made? And I too would like an actual THX AAA power amplifier--10 to 20wpc would be fine!

You always get what you pay for... but that doesn't mean you always get what you pay for relatively speaking. What I see DROP doing is making manufactures aware of basic math where increased sales volume at a lower price can exceed the profit margin of lower sales volume at a much higher price which allows unnecessary features used to support a higher price be dropped...

Hmm, this might actually be a good fit for me. I’m new to this audiophile stuff and would love some opinions. I just picked up a pair of 6xx open-back headphones and play most of my music on vinyl. I’ve been using Yamaha studio monitors as my speakers and like the sound other then the total lack of low end. They give great separation and are obviously really clean but know that studio monitors are kind of frowned upon in the vinyl community. I’ve been going back-and-forth between the idea of buying passive speakers or just getting a sub to match the studio monitors One other issue that I have is that there’s no volume control on my turntable so I’m constantly going back-and-forth between the two studio monitors that are somewhat awkwardly placed to be a just that. This amp sounds like it could power my studio monitors better than the preamp build into my turntable and would also work for my new open back headphones. I want great sound on a budget but also want to be building in the right direction. Any ideas or suggestions? A bit more costly, but I’ve also been looking at the topping a90 and a few tube amps including the dark voice. I’d really like an amp that will power headphones and work with my speakers ..but again, might move to pass if speakers at some point. I’m still learning a lot and any info or opinions would be really helpful.
