When I demoed an HD6XX against my modded TH-X00PH, it was pretty interesting. My modded TH-X00PH seems to be a 'Super' HD6XX. While the bass level isn't even close (HD6XX is way rolled off and subdued in subbass by comparison) the detail and finnese are pretty much similar. The mids are much closer with equal detail and dynamics, though the modded THX-00PH is more forward and richer sounding, and the highs are more dynamic and energetic with better extension in the modded TH-X00PH but the HD6XX seems just a tad bit more detailed. This was with Gustard X20U DAC and modded Gustard H10 amp, a high powered setup that really brings out detail, dynamics, and bass and has great clarity.
Was impressed enough with the HD6XX that I went in on the HD58X drop.

VRacer111Thanks! I looked at measurements for the HD6XX and TH-X00 and the frequency response curves corroborate your statements. The TH-X00 response looks very close to that of the HD6XX, but with bass extension. I have a pair of modded T50RPs, which I enjoy as much as the HD6XX. I just haven't been able to get the sub bass extension.

AsheikmWell this is the response curve of my how my modded TH-X00PH is setup (someone elses TH-X00PH modded exactly like mine):

I have a pair of Mk3 T40RP I'm thinking of sending in to be modded into Argons. Keep hearing great things about the Mk3 Argon. $90+pads isn't a bad deal for the mod.

VRacer111That's a pretty impressive response, especially considering that a single driver has to cover the entire frequency spectrum. Fostex makes some awesome full range loudspeaker drivers, I guess they apply that knowledge to headphone drivers as well.
