There are two answers to your question. A: Straight forward, subjective answer / B: Complicated objective answer

A: Start with Philips Fidelio X2/27. If you’re just getting into headphone audiophilia, this is the easiest thing in my mind to recommend. It will give you a good baseline reference on what to listen for since it exaggerates everything in a very pleasing way. Soundstage width, 360 location, stereo separation, bass response/extension/speed, high clarity/air/sparkle, mid presence, and overall frequency response is present, accounted for, and emphasized. It’s a nice transition into audiophile headphones, that’s easier for new-comers to appreciate than super flat response, hi-fidelity headphones. You wont’ even need an amp.
B. Once you have a baseline comparison of lower consumer headphone performance to the entry level, audiophile headphones, you can start to determine what aspects of the sound profile are important to you. This will inform your purchase decision rest of the way down the rabbit hole when looking for new headphones and eventually, amps to pair them with. To be honest, asking for recommendations is never satisfying even when you get plenty of responses. The enjoyment comes from exploration of options and trying different headphones out with your favourite music.
But we’re here to hopefully keep you from investing money on something you’ll regret. So yeah... please refer to answer A.

Do you think you would still suggest the same 2 years later?

I think more so now since you can find them brand new for as low as $150. I am looking forward for the gen3 of those headphones, but Covid-19 has delayed its release. The new X3s will be around $400 though, so I think the X2s are still the most viable entry level headphone for upcoming enthusiasts.

Are the Audio-Technica ATH-R70X headphones better than the ATX-AD900X?
I have gotten a little bit into audiophile stuff after watching some dankpods videos, and I want to step up my game with a better pair of open-back headphones for around 300 USD, but I do not really know what to get. I have looked at Sennheiser and other companies, but what I am mostly looking for is a pair of high ohm headphones with big drivers in them (about 50mm) because I am a huge bass junkie. I came across Audio-Technica and they have exactly what I am looking for in my budget, and the products they make look good too. I have not tried the headphones myself but they seem like the best option because everything else I find is more expensive than I would like. The main question here is if the two headphones mentioned in the title are good, which one is better than the other, or if I should just stay away from this company in general. As a newbie, am very open to suggestions about other headphones I could get and things I should look for and stay away from, so any constructive...

The IEM trek continues.
Nothing fancy here but I have purchased a few more under $100 pairs. After the purchase of the Moondrop Aria I have since purchased the TIN T2, TIN T3 Plus, BLON BL03 and the final E3000. As a newbie to IEM's I have found some to be more comfortable than others, as is the case with different tips. I have really been impressed by the amount of sound that these little things can generate, and probably even more given how inexpensive these are. Sure, I know that they get to being much more costly. I'm not sure I wish to venture too far down the rabbit hole on IEM's. I like them for portability. And the cheaper ones won't hurt so much if they break or get lost. How much better does it get at the $300 price point? $500? $1000? I'd rather dump $500 or a grand on a pair of over ear headphones, personally.

Looking for a 2 pin recessed cable, no memory wire, love 90degree 3.5mm jack
Hello, say looking for a 2 pin recessed cable, in a 3.5mm jack. I'm in need of one without a formed loop or memory wire. My custom alclair studio3 have the cable out the bottom to fit under my motorcycle full fCe helmet. The rigid wire can cause issues with the seal and let in wind noise... My current cable is the standard black 3.5mm with memory wire... (I could do a balanced 2.5 from my dac/amp, but my phone usb C to 3.5mm for backup would be an issue if I ever used it) Any thoughts, ideas, suggestions?? Thanks for your time.
