Hd58x is awesome for gaming, i used audio Technica ad900x for years until i tried hd660s. I can pinpoint sounds so well with the 660s, i have the 58x now and can tell you its very similar as far as imaging. Ive tried alot of the best cans for gaming and i always use the hd660s or hd58x now. I'd say 9/10 cause nothing is perfect right? Theyre close. Now soundstage, the soundstage is very good on hd660s, hd58x, again these are similar 'phones all around. Soundstage isnt as huge as ad900x but it is certainly good enough. Imaging is whats important, you can wear em all day and pinpoint every sound. Forget about hd6xx, hd650 for gaming. They sound good but they aren't in the same league as the others. I'd say 6/10 imaging, just average. Soundstage is less as well but not by alot, again, that isn't as important. If you want an awesome all around headphone thats the best for gaming, get the hd58x, hd660s. I use hd660s on PC, hd58x on PS4. Use both with creative soundcards, x3 on ps4 pro, g5 on PC. Both headphones sound similar, near exact for games. The hd660s is slightly better for music but not alot and its kind of a thing where you gotta try em back to back to notice. From what I've seen most people agree with me as far as gaming on the hd660s/hd58x. Music opinions vary more. I much prefer the hd660s over the hd650/hd6xx, more detail, cleaner bass but more in your face. The hd6xx is smoother i guess according to most, i think it's just inferior to the hd58x/hd660s. Get the hd58x, I've used it back to back with many, many headphones. I haven't heard anything compare, its an advantage in games

Sup Greg. What’s the comfort like in the headband for the 58x? I currently use the GSP 500 and that top gap in between the padding tends to give out and I begin to feel pressure on the top of my head after an hour or so.

Hey Lou, i would think you'll be fine with the padding on the HD58x, i haven't used the gsp 500 but I am very familiar with the GSP600 and i think the 500 & 600 have the same headband padding. The padding on the 58x is similar but the weight on the 58x is much less. Its the way they squeeze your ears that usually gives people the discomfort. For myself and most people according to what I've read, they are pretty tight like all the sennheiser cans of this design. The 660, 58x, 6xx all were very snug on my large head but they weren't painfully so and they got better the more i used them. When i first got my 58x, i loved em so much and i had em off & on(mostly on) all night and the next evening when I put them on they had already loosened up a good bit. After a few hours they were perfect. Everybody has a different head shape, mines wide and often completely bald so i am sensitive to headbands causing discomfort. I dont have that at all with the 58x. Theyre very light and that contributes to them being so comfortable. Mine have been used almost daily for a long time now and they're still comfortable, not worn out or creaky, seems like theyll last alot longer. I love mine, i also have the $500 hd660s and they sound so much like the hd58x. For what the hd58x cost, theyre a real bargain. I had the 660s before the 58x or i never would have bought the 660s.

Thanks for the prompt reply. I was hoping that that cushioning was firm enough for my head to stay away from the plastic part of the headband. Won’t know until I try. Drop’s return policy seems to be reasonable.

Yes Drop is really good about returns if you dont like them but i think you will find the padding sufficient. I was just comparing the padding on the gsp600 vs hd58x, and while my 58x has seen alot of usage, they still have a nice padding on top and with their lightweight, the band on top shouldnt be an issue. I think you'll like them alot.

Thanks yeah it’s safe to say that GSP 500 is much more weighed down due to more material to include the attached microphone.

Yeah i dont have a gsp500 here to compare but the gsp600 is significantly heavier than the 58x which are very light. Another thing since you brought up the mic- I have a modmic attached to my hd58x. Theyre very light but i did have dual cables running to my amp/pc but i ended up buying a real short cable for like $10 for the hd58x so i could place the splitter cable up higher towards the headset and then i only have 1 cable running most of the length instead of having the cables clipped together covered in a braided wrap. Makes it a little nicer, cleaner, easier to manage. You also have to consider that the 58x has cables coming off both sides instead of just the 1 cable like the gsp500. Just something to get used to, its no issue for me now.

What to do with one side dead (Focal Elex)?
I have a pair of focal elex headphones. By far one of the best I've had but one side went dead yesterday. Not the cable issue and read that it is common with them. Could you advise what to do? Can it be fixed locally? Given it right be the driver or copper cable inside?

Clamping forces of Drop-collaborated headphones
I have a fat wide head and am sensitive to the clamping force of headphones. My question is, why are the clamping forces of Drop headphones reportedly higher than the ones from the original manufacturer? For example, according to measured tests on rtings.com, both the Sennheiser HD5xx, HD58x, and HD6xx have much higher clamping force than their respective Sennheiser original models. This also seems to ring true with the Drop x Meze 99 headphones, where Meze 99 forums are saying there's almost no clamping force but the some on the Drop forum are saying the collab version's clamping force were "quite high." Is Drop requesting that headbands be tighter on the collab versions? What's going on? Also, can anyone suggest me a comfortably wide/large headphones? I'm currently using AKG 7xx and they're super comfortable.

How to connect my laptop to DROP + THX AAA™ 789 LINEAR AMPLIFIER
I have the Focal Elex. I plug it into the mini plug audio output on my HP laptop and listen to Youtube music, and some Wav tracks saved on my computer. How do I connect the following unit into my laptop to improve my listening experience? Do I need a special cable that goes from my laptop into the DROP + THX AAA™ 789 LINEAR AMPLIFIER ?

CTH + SDAC is on the fritz. Can someone help?
So I've been using my CTH + SDAC for a couple years with no problems. However, within the last month or so, I've been running into a few issues: some hissing in the right channel (which is only really audible at 0 volume) and sometimes there are clicking sounds from the box during which the sound cuts out. It seems like it's struggling to stay fully active for some reason. I just bought a replacement 6922 tube to see if that would fix the issue. It seems to have solved the hissing, but there's still intermittent clicks that cut the audio. It's the same clicking sound that happens when the unit's LED changes from red to white and allows audio through during normal operation, but it will happen repeatedly and quickly in succession, without the LED changing, and the audio will go in and out. Has anyone had this issue or know what's going on?

DAC/AMP with 58X Jubilee and Shure MV7 XLR
I'm trying to find a really good sounding DAC/AMP to run my 58X Jubilee's and my Kanto YU2 powered speakers (preferably a button to switch between outputs) and a XLR mic input for my Shure MV7. Any recommendations? PS: I play FPS games (so want the advantage there) and listen to all sorts of music that I want to hear the depth and details of (Classical to NIN/Black Keys).

About to receive my replacement Focal Elex and worried about quality
My original Elex left driver went out 10 months in. The replacement is soon to be delivered. I'm worried that the same thing will happen to the replacement at some point. I've ordered the upcoming Drop HD-8xx hoping that it will usable for me like the Elex has been. With the Drop HD-8xx the inherent lift in the highs of the HD 800's has been partially dealt with and some lows added. I honestly don't like hyped treble when using headphones. I'm hoping that there is an open back phone that is somewhat linear like the Elex, and has a similar sonic signature. I don't want another headphone from Focal; just can't deal with this again. What non-Focal linear open back headphone easily competes with the Elex?

THX AAA 789 Amazing sound
Online reviews spoke highly, but I was suprised by the detail in the sound. I was using a Dac/amp with an msrp of 1400 so I did not expect much. I did notice an immediate clarity improvement. Music, specifically words were no longer blurred.Singers seemed to make more of an effort to enunciate words more. Even using a $100 DAC the sound was top notch. Drop hit a home run with this product.
