Good review and very consistent with what I hear:metallic bright, slightly boosted upper bass (perhaps to balance the highs?), but fun. It's possible these were tuned to sound exciting when fed by the typically bland output of a cell phone; a headphone tuner could work some magic here.
Switching between these and my Utopias using a CEC T53Z cd player as a source feeding a COS Engineering H1 and I keep thinking "Not exactly accurate, but not nearly as bad as some early reviews would have one believe." The brightness initially can be piercing on some material, but does diminish a bit with use. Nevertheless I think most of that is the ear adjusting to the signature. I would not pair with a lean/bright amp, source or material!
Pair it with a sweet sounding system and these can be enjoyable. Well recorded music is served well once the ear adjusts.
Very difficult to find, but the poor market acceptance means I was able to get them at a steal (low 3 figures) from a store in the UK to use as in a portable setup with my Questyle QPR2.

bramsYeah! I got my pair -$500 under MSRP. It's definitely not for bright amp/dac combos. I mean, they meant to release this with their uber luxury turntables. So I have reason to believe they're meant to be used with warmer setups and thats why they've made them brighter. To be honest, I've really grown to love its sound signature. It's my go-to pair of cans now.
