Z Reviews says a lot of things I don't necessarily agree with... not saying he's wrong on the Oppo as it is a good portable rig. He's just rather quick to declare things "the best" when he has minimal exposure to the other items in the same niche. As far as other DAC/AMP combos the XDuo XD-5 ( drop is open) the Peachtree Shift, audioquest dragonfly (I have 1.2 for the office), Geekout V2 and Schiit Fulla all have solid reputations and specs. Do you need 192kHz/24 bit support? Do you prefer it have it's own battery or are you mostly using at the office with minimal portable time?

I ended up getting the OPPO HA-2 and as of now, I'm a bit disappointed with the marginal increase in sound quality/clarity. The integrated DAC from the iPhone SE is no slouch, so the difference was marginal. I can definitely tell an increase in sound quality at higher volumes (less distortion), but for everyday listening I can barely tell the difference. Is it because I'm using a more entry level pair of headphones? I'm currently listening through Audio-Technica ATH-M50. I'm using VOX iOS app to play FLAC 44100 16-bit tracks.

Yup, those headphones are easy to drive and the DAC/Amp in new iphones (and possibly older ones) is no slouch.
edit: I guess what my overall point is is that if the headphones get loud enough out of your phone, I wouldn't bother with an amp, it's just one more thing you have to carry around.

I will be returning the OPPO HA-2 and opt for a non-portable DAC/AMP, such as the ODAC/AMP combo from JDSLabs. As of now I'm listening to James Blake - Radio Silence and it just comes alive on my Schiit Stack (Modi/Magnus 2). It's literally night and day. I'm no audiophile but the soundstage is much more immersive and all encompassing on the Schiit stack. I'm aware that I'm comparing a portable DAC to a non portable one, but since the OPPO gives barely any noticeable improvement compared to the iPhone SE integrated DAC I will opt for a stationary DAC/AMP. Maybe I would notice a difference on higher end headphones. Would I be able to tell the difference on a Fostex TH-X00 for instance? I currently have those on order now.

If the headphones are more power hungry then yes, you will certainly notice a difference because you will be able to get it up to a good listening level easily. I have not listened to the Fostex th-x00 so I can't really say for sure, but I will say that the schitt stack is a surprisingly good amp/dac combo. I'm actually selling my bottlehead crack and speedball because I am perfectly content driving my hd600s with a magni 2.
I'm assuming by magnus 2 you meant magni 2? Is there a reason you are considering the ODAC/Amp when you already have the magni 2? I can't say one is really better than the other.
As far as portable audio goes, I ended up just buying a nice pair of IEMs that I can drive straight out of my phone or laptop and I am perfectly content doing that.

What is the likelihood of a THX AAA tws earbud being made?
Considering the fact that the THX pandas exist, what is the likelihood that we will get a pair of tws earbuds with AAA tech. Do you guys think there's a market for it?

TOPPING DX7 PRO DAC/AMP - Will Not Power On
Any suggestions on how to fix a TOPPING DX7 PRO DAC/AMP that will not power on? I bought the unit 3 months ago and worked fine until recently. I've already checked the AC fuse, replaced the power cord and tried a different AC power outlet. Thanks!

Don't head much of a difference between ATH m50x, HD 58x and HE 4xx
As the title says, I don't hear any big difference between these headphones. I originally had the ATH m50x for some time and was content. However, a few weeks ago, I read that a lot of people were saying that it wasn't that good of a pair of headphone and there were many better ones out there. 2 of which, were the HD 58x jubilee and the Hifiman He 4xx. So I ordered these 2 headphones and have been using them with my desktop for the last couple of weeks. I bought these 2 because I heard that open-back headphones sounded different from closed-back, and that the sound stage between these 2 were also completely different. However, if I am being completely honest, I don't head much of a difference between these 3 headphones. I am a little disappointed now though because after spending so much money I honestly don't think it was much of an upgrade. Are my ears just broken, or is there something that I am missing that make people praise these massdrop headphones and bash the ATH m50x?

Kinera released an updated version of their first flagship IEMs, Odin. The Odin 2.0 really caught my attention because of the beautiful faceplates. I haven't really heard any all-ba iems except the Dunu SA6. Wondering how it sounds. Any input/ feedback will be appreciated!

Sennheiser HD6XX or HIFIMAN HE5XX? or Other?
Hey all, Not quite an audiophile, but a music lover and creator and could use some advice. First open-back pair I'll have purchased in a while. Had a pair of Grados, but sold as I never found time to listen with them in the right environment. Now that I'm working from home, feels like the right time to purchase, but of course listening through speakers when I can too! This is my lineup today for context, so might be nice to find something that fits within: Meze 99 Classics Audioquest NightOwl Airpods (Not pro, never like deep in-ear and headaches w/ ANC) Audio-Technica ATH-M50xbt (Arriving today in the mail. For work calls and listening on-the-go, have always gotten headaches and nausea from ANC; these seem like the best solution w/o. I did order the Sony XM4s just to do one final test, but will likely get the same headache and I've read they don't sound as good with ANC turned off, or when used with a wire. High hopes for the ATs as they seem to maintain the standard M50x...

Does anyone know of a site like the old MassDrop?
I've purchased many items from this site over the years but I've seen it go from a place that offered discounted prices on a variety of known items to being a simple MSRP store for their own products which amount to seemingly ONLY headphones and keyboards. Does anyone know of any other sites that actually offer group deals instead of being a self-serving storefront for their own brand?
