jaxtraumaIt is interesting finding beam triodes from the 50s and 40s which are cheap and readily available. Even more so finding that there are high powered dual beam triodes from that time period for cheap. Apparently they were originally used for radar and 2-meter radio, so they've got somewhere around 40w of plate dissipation, and because they're dual beam they can run push-pull inside the bottle. And holy crap they are the thickest and most solid feeling tube I've gotten my grubby mitts on. I've read (and heard) that they make for some interesting tube amping with the right speakers. I've got a bunch of random speakers, and any excuse to buy more audio toys totally fits my neurosis. So... I'm collecting. I ordered a bunch of Russian GU-29 and American 829B to get started. I'm still waiting on all the GU-29, because transit from Russia and Ukraine is kinda slow. Unfortunately it will take a while to get the cheap(ish) Audioromy M-828A amplifier I was planning on ordering for use with them. Pandemic. Getting anything from China fast right now is expensive, so I'm waiting. I'll be very ready when I do order and it arrives. That and I'm still waiting on the Septar to Octal adapter I need to test the tubes on my TV7B/U. I'll feel much better about popping these tubes into an amp if I've run them through their paces in a very controlled fashion on a device meant exactly for that purpose. :) So, yeah. This is very much so the start of my adventures in odd valves. Worst case? They'll make great conversation pieces.
