Just ordered HD 6xx...

Just ordered my HD 6xx's and have been researching AMP/DACs to pair it with. Very new to the headphone world, previously owned HD280 Pro and currently own MDR 7506s. Needless to say, I have settled on this AMP/DAC pair AMP - Massdrop THX AAA 789 DAC - SMSL SU-8 Version 2 Will I need balanced XLR cables? Any recommendations? Will I need other cords? Is this a good AMP/DAC to pair with HD 6xx's. Just looking for a decent setup for a $500 budget Thanks

No negative to using balanced when you have it. Designed for stage and studio to be as immune to noise as possible. I recently got a Mogami Neglex headphone extension cable for the “re-arraigned home office”, and well, call me impressed, it’s ‘not there’...:) Yes, these at first may seem pricy, need two... they are not - for what they are, lifetime quality: https://www.amazon.com/Mogami-GOLD-STUDIO-02-Microphone-XLR-Female/dp/B0002E1P2G?th=1&psc=1 edit; updated to 3’ as it has next up size in cable gauge, 2’ would be fine though... A decent USB cable should also be in the plan, it is a critical link, a one-way data stream in audio, no checks: https://www.amazon.com/Pangea-Audio-Premier-Cable-Meter/dp When you don’t upgrade later, decent cables are cheaper. When you get that rig, you are in for some enjoyment.

Just bought the DAC/AMP combo. Will I need any additional cables to connect the DAC to the AMP or are they included?

Your setup that you have is fantastic. I might get lynched for this but in my experience balanced cables are a sham and unless the wiring in your house is REALLY old and noisy, you'll be fine.
Long runs is another factor... my cables run 15 or so feet from the rack to the amps and I need two outputs (SE to speaker rig, XLR to headphone rig). Outside of some specific uses balanced output get's way too much hype these days. Most people have no need and get very little benefit.

Yeah I didnt think about that application because all of my stuff is right next to me, but I still assume most people wont be too far from their source.
