Has anyone successfully used 5 SECTION POLE - 49" CARBON FIBER by Six Moon Disigns with X-mid? I wonder if the tip will actually fit inside of the peak grommets of the X-mid. What would be the best length to sew this pole down to? 46"? 47"?48"? Also- Ruta Locura 450 and 600 carbon tent poles seems to be out of stock for a while. Are they normally in stock?

I've talked to people who have used it and said it works well. I suspect it's not that stiff, but enough to work. You do want to trim it down because otherwise you're angling the pole a lot or digging it into the dirt. 47" - 47.5" is a good length to trim it to. Not sure about the RL poles, you can get them via HMG in 4 piece: https://www.hyperlitemountaingear.com/products/dirigo-2-carbon-fiber-pole-set Those are adjustable which is nice but heavier, expensive and won't pack as short as the 5 piece SMD poles.

dandurstonThanks Dan for your timely and thorough answer. SMD 5 section carbon poles seem to be the way togo. Thanks for pointing toward HMG's RL poles. Looks nice and well-built but for that price, weight, & bulk, I would take trekking poles instead. I can't wait for my X-mid delivery in July-Aug!
