Hi. A bump. I am looking to modding my KPH30i to be balanced also and planning to use MMCX too. Are there different MMCX connectors for balanced and single ended connections? Or can the same standard MMCX connector be used for balanced? It will be a 4.4mm balanced male at the other end. Thanks for any advice! (Maybe a link to a guide you used?)

DonatasThe good thing about the mmcx connector is that since the drivers are independent from one another, they are already balanced. At that point it’s only the jack that will determine if it’s balanced or unbalanced. as for the guide, to be honest, I don’t remember which site I used. I would recommend superglue though to hold the metal mmcx connectors. Sorry

RyanPinThanks for the answer and advice! Much appreciated! How much did the sound improve going from single ended to balanced? Was it worth the hassle? P.S. Just tried the "Ultra" mod with Grado Sr1000 (nock-offs) huge pads for comfort and better sound stage, removed stock pads. But I am not completely happy with the sound change - it became more thin at the high end. Maybe I have to try Yaxi anyways :)

DonatasI would say that there is an improvement in going to balanced, but don’t expect a complete night and day kind of thing. In the end, these are still just 20-30 dollar headphones. You’ll get less interference and noise, and most likely you’ll be using a highly quality cable that’s thicker than the one provided. I honestly feel more than anything else that modding these headphones is good practice and potential gateway to attempting more mods on pricier headphones. It’s fun, and the experience and hearing the result is part of the enjoyment. I would highly recommend the Yaxi pads. I thought that the Ultra mod was kind of excessive and goofy looking for such small and cheap headphones. Then again, to modify these, get the cable, and swapping yaxi pads, you’re doubling or even tripling the cost to improve cheap headphones. Money that you could have put toward a more expensive headphone. That would be the pessimist in me, but the act of exploration of your skills makes it worth the cost of modding these. happy tinkering.

RyanPinThanks, @RyanPin! Already heard a huge jump in sound quality getting a new dac/amp (Khadas Tone 2 Pro). Probably it's going to be a year or two until my next big headphone purchase so want to make those KPK30i's sound as best they can :) Also received my second pair of them so will definitely try Yaxi pads for using these outside. However after longer listening - I do like the Ultra mod. It's just a couple of songs that sounded a bit too thin but generaly the comfort is so much better and sound is a slightly nicer. But I agree - they do look goofy :) Cheers!
