A very well written review of an off-brand notebook. My preference has always been Rhodia and Clairefontaine for FP paper. I might have to grab one of these to fool around with. Let us know how that spine wears as I am wondering if it would survive in my duffel. I might have to reinforce each page with Washi tape, and use a combination of Gorilla tape and Washi tape on the spine.

sallensallen ... don't know what you got stuffed in that duffel bag... but if duct tape isn't tough enough, have you seen this tape... Someone posted the video on face book... Looks like it will hold the binding ;)

j-e-gNo I have not seen that tape - now I am going to have to try some. My duffel is full of my EDC gear plus my lap top, journals, note pads, and pencil/pen storage apparatuses.

sallenHmm.. better order an extra roll of tape in case you need to reinforce that duffel bag ;)

j-e-gMy duffel is made of very heavy canvas. It is a mountaineering bag from Switzerland originally issued to Swiss alpine troops. The Swiss make excellent mountaineering gear. I figure if these bags can survive in the Swiss Alps the bag had better be able to survive my daily commute. Other than having to replace a buckle or two, and a leather strap because my puppy ate it a few years ago, the bag has been my constant companion. Inside is a little dirtier, some of which is transfer from the Allegory leather pen wraps, and the occasional FP casualty / catastrophe. My notepads, and journals get referenced often, so I need spines that can survive repeated opening (very flat preferably) without shedding pages or ripping apart. I've spent a small fortune on Washi Tape, Gorilla Tape, and acid-free clear tape reinforcing my journals.

sallenI'm thinking there is a lot of "stuff" in that new tape... might not be safe for documents. But.. I definitely need some to have on hand :) Did you get a chance to check out those leather goods ? I started out measuring for a case today .. but ended up filling some pens .. which led to filling 15 ink sample bottles to mail to a friend..... never did draw up the pen case. :O

j-e-gI suppose there is - not sure if Fiberfix is archival safe or acid free, but for bindings on the outside it might not matter. I did look at the leather, some nice stuff.
sallenSo far so good sallen. No signs of the spine or the binding failing. My notebook lives in its own custom cover now, very happy with it.

TherocThanks for the update, any chance of getting to see some pictures of the cover?
sallenYou bet. Just have to make up my mind on where to post it; on this thread or a new one about custom covers.
sallenHere is a photo of the cover. I will post more along with some details in a new thread.
