Saying Farewell to the Writing Community

more_vert
We have an update for everyone, Not the best news today, but not unexpected for most. On July 1st we will be closing down the Talk section of the Writing community. This is part of an ongoing effort to focus our available resources on the communities we feel we can make the biggest impact on for our members.  Writing first landed on the site back in 2014 and from the first day was one of the most focused and passionate communities on the site. Not every day since has been smooth sailing, but it has certainly been a pleasure getting to know a great many of you over the years and it has been one of the most educational experiences for all of us who have spent any amount of time in this community.  As a generation who has spent more time with a keyboard than with a pen, it was the people here who taught us that handwriting can still be a pleasure in life. That not all pens come in a pack of 50 or get thrown away as soon as they fail to produce a stroke. Some pens are in fact made with love; pouring it back out in every word they produce. Not mass produced tubes of plastic that cramp your hand while dutifully copy pasting without thought or joy. But elegant, well thought out designs made from quality materials to be used for years until it finally exhausts itself in some yet unknown future.   We’re saddened to close this chapter of our story, but want to thank all of you for everything over the past six years. It has been our pleasure and privilege to learn from you and we wish you the best on all the future Fountain Pen days to come.  Thank you again.

I mean, this is a trash website, so getting rid of the one interesting spot on it isn't unexpected. But I'm sure you'll still be selling ridiculously overpriced pens of generally poor quality, so we'll have that cancerous sore left, at least.

Ah well. I was introduced to some great brands and products through the writing community. I'll miss it.

ChuckDeeMe, too, on both counts. The writing section was something I read and because of Drop, I had to buy another pen portfolio. What a sacrifice!

Also sad to see it go. Thankfully there are other resources for writing enthusiasts.
Sad to see it go, though not surprised. Those first 3-4 years were great though; can't take that away.
I'm not anything close to an expert in pens, but Writing has always had a special place in my heart here. I've met some really great people and have enjoyed chatting with them a great deal over the years. It was thanks to this community that I figured out my grandpas old Parker pen set and was able to bring it back to life. So a big thanks from me to all of you out there that keep this hobby thriving.
