DOXA Sub 300--Cure For the Common Submariner Homage?
Every now and then (quite often, actually) I run across a member-comment indigently decrying the outrage of some watch "X" looking similar to some other watch "Y."
Overlooking for the moment that nearly all watches are round and most divide the dial into twelve equal segments, and that almost no one complains about those similarities, the most commonly complained about similarities are those attributed to the iconic Rolex Submariner dive watch.
"It's a fake Rolex!!!" they shout from the rooftops whenever they see any black dial surrounded by a rotating bezel--as if they'd just discovered Vladimir Putin himself attempting to tip the scales for trump in the 2020 election!
Yes, we know what Putin is up to, and yes, lots of watches look similar to Submariners, Seamasters and dozens of other watches--because those designs have become the defacto designs for a group of watches intended to do the same thing--dive under water and track the time spent there.
