Literally, drooling...  IPA not helping... Full hand with aluminum plate, right?  Ideal switches and key caps...
Can you pls share more details? What do you mostly type?  What do you think about full hand versus classic?  Aluminum versus acrylic surface?  How did you select those switches and caps.  What key mapping changes did you make?

I program in python and C++ mostly. I only have full hand since I have a prefence for that in other keyboards and still think I like it though I've been contemplating making a smaller one for travel. I like the aluminum surface because it doesn't smudge much and the acrylic shows handprints pretty well. Plus it's pretty nice to look at. This plate/case is made by mechanicalkeyboards.com and I ordered two; the second one looks more teal than blue like this one but I really like it better and I'm saving it for the Dasher keyset I ordered which should arrive in June. This keyset is one I got as a necessity after the Amazing Chocolateer set was delayed and my Ergodox Infinity showed up, and I had no caps. This set was available for immediate shipping (just the ergodox and some alternates — in this case the ergodox set included the alphanumerics which is unusual). Anyway I had it on my first board, the Infinity. I kind of immediately fell in love with the key profile and layout (you will note I use a non-"standard" ergodox layout that is slightly closer to my muscle memory from a qwerty board) BT then realized by only buying one Infinity it was almost impossible to find another for a reasonable price until the drop repeats. Eventually Chocolateer showed up and I put those on that board and built this one. This board is an original ergodox I assembled so I'd have one to take to work and one at home. It benefited from some of the novelty keys from the Chocolateer set and some rub-on transfer lettering I added myself.
The layout I have discussed elsewhere but basically I use the right hand home keys one left of intended and slightly turn my hand. In the best world, the staggered layout would match my hand but in practice it works pretty well. I am about 80% of full speed on this compared to my laptop or my previous main boards, the Matais Ergo Pro. Both of my Ergo Pro have started ghosting characters and driving me nuts in the last year. Eventually I might rebuild them but they are out of warantee and I'm pretty mad that they failed so quickly.
one thing I learned about these mechanicalkeyboards.com cases is that you must use surface mount diodes since the leads coming through the board will prevent a solid mate-up with the acrylic key plate and make it impossible for the keys to bottom out on the board; even after clipping my leads down as close as I could the leads from the switches barely make it proud of the holes, causing soldiering problems. Also these cases have no reinforcement for any but one side of the 2U thumb keys. I used sugru to provide a solid fit but it will be difficult to ever change on that board.

Oh the switches: I built my infinity with browns and I still like them but they are a bit chunky going down. Bought a tester set for zealios tactile and loved them. 65g for most of the board, 68g for the 1.5U keys and the 1U keys I hit with my thumb, and 78g for the four 2U thumb keys. Even without stabilizers (which are terrible on the infinity drop kit) they are absolutely solid, the sugru helps a bit maybe!

Awesome!  Thanks for detailed response.  Ton of useful info--really appreciate it. Going to chew on this and digest--doesn't sound trivial, potential gotchas...  In any case, I think Ergodox is definitely in my cards since it meets my needs well with cool factor.  This is going to be a lot of fun!

You're not lying about those stabilizers. Took me longer to get keycaps on those things than to solder the switches lol

Help! I'm trapped in a keyboard!
I apologize for the off topic post, but having not visited Drop for a while I sign in and find that I had reduced my communities to just Keyboards. I'd like to add Watches. But for the life of me I cannot figure out how to do that. How can I see a list of all communities and add new ones?
