Where have you been? Your mother and I have been worried sick about you!!! "Hello--Sherif's Department? Never mind--we found him. Yes, we'll pay for the helicopter..." Kidding--I don't actually know your mum (although I assume she does worry about you). Nice watch by the way, but I wouldn't sell the that Keywest--they're becoming rare!

Inclined to agree with you regarding Seiko and especially the 5 line--terribly over priced for entry level watches and crazy high prices for their mid-ranges watches as well. Not the least bit impressed with their LE strategy for everything else. Between you and me, I think they've lost their way--and as a Seiko guy, it pains me to say that.

RayFyeap, the alpinist isn't worth 750, i paid 450 for it (if u look at last gen it retails for 450 on amazon) so I'm like, thats more in line with what I expected in terms of movt/fit/finish/overall quality etc. Now, it could just be high price/early adopters and we will see the shift down in pricing in the future (after corona) so the new Seiko 5 will be more inline as a value brand at 150ish. To me that makes sense even with the updated movement (movements last forever if taken cared of as you know so its not like its gonna be obsolete). Was also talking to a friend about mech watches/value and Seiko (hes a reformed watch guy, sold his collection jus does mecha/quartz or quartz, which is fine to me) and how GS went upscale (in price but performance is the same) and their LE (some LE are very cool, don't get me wrong) and certainly a GS at 15k (i forget their most expensive but yea like 40-50k?) will pretty much make any (yes any watch) watch fit/finish look like garbo. So with GS going up, naturally Seiko goes up and now its up to microbrands to fill that lower bracket but they cant due to lack of vol (they would need to sell millions like seiko does and lets be real, they cant). Then we talked about supply chain logisitics (very fascinating cool stuff!). So we wondered why the bigger jump in pricing compared to the street price (knowing full well retailers will lower the price over time) so we think Seiko will take a more hands on approach to their watches/prices (look at richemont buying back grey market watches to inflate their profits by keeping their prices high since the big watch makers are buying back grey market, which is like, they do what they gotta do so meh). So with them controlling their image/pricing we shall see how the market reacts in time because they're trying to change their image in the NA market (not being known as a cheap brand) and while their CEO will say seiko is an entry point but u look at their presage lines/LE and rehashing of past models that puts it at 3-8k range and then ur like, well, why don't I just buy a GS Snowflake instead? so its weird..... Ultimately, they're in a weird spot where their fit/finish is top notch for their price points (seiko/gs) but they lost the value orientation they had before. BUT they do have a unique enough (and good enough imo) design appeal that you're sucked in by them (maybe now new seiko 5 but my alpinist was a fall in love 1st sight type deal and having it on my wrist now its like yeaaap love it).
