Zodiac Update: Fahgettaboudit!

Got the email, clicked the link, got to the page, and read the news: SOLD OUT!

All that happened in about four seconds. No idea who the rat-bastards are who got there first and bought up the entire supply, but I have my suspicions. If I'm wrong, we won't see them popping up on Chrono24 in the next few days, but if I'm right... Can we really blame the resellers? I say no--the fault is with Zodiac who has no excuse for supposedly underestimating demand for the watch, and for releasing it as a limited edition watch in the first place (they have years of LE sales history they could have used to predict TRUE demand). Of course all of that distills down to one thing: SLIMY MARKETING! Of course there is a less Conspiracy Theory oriented possibility--that Zodiac never intended to sell them directly from their site, and instead dolled them out to their ADs as is the normal process. And If that's true, and if you've got an extra seventeen-hundred clams in your pocket, then today's Hodinkee ad offers at least some hope for an oranger future: To be continued!

Same happened to me. Saw the Hodinkee promotion, googled the model and saw Watchgauge. Went over there as fast as I could and saw they had them. Without thinking how or why I put in an order. Must have been the last one. I got my confirmed order and went back in to their site and saw they were sold out. I've always been a fan of White dialed watches with a hint of or Orange (think Rolex Explorer II). Throw in a GMT function that I don't currently own and voila. Orange Sherbert on the wrist. Should be fun!

roamy360 Zodiac sent an email out this morning claiming they’re back in stock on their own site. Haven’t checked it out yet.

OnePunchMan A kind offer, but I wouldn't want to spend that much without seeing it in-hand first. My initial impression of the watch came from Zodiac's dolled-up, glamor shots, but later I saw some no-makeup, just-out'a-bed shots (on Hodinkee's site, I think) and those kind of gave me pause--for the moment, anyway. See, I've been burned like that before. I was much younger of course, and I'd probably had too much to drink...and there was this chick at the end of the bar, and the place was closing... Anyway, as I say, it happened a long time ago but the memory is fresh ;- )
