Newbie hi-res player

more_vert
I know this is probably a loaded questions with lots of factors that could come into play. But am curious about getting a portable hi-res music player. I want my first to be a budget model, to be sure I am ready to wander down another rabbit hole. By budget I am looking around the $200-$250 range. Been reading some reviews, mainly of the Hiby R3 Pro Saber, and Shanling M2X. From the few reviews I have read I would say I am leaning more toward the R3 at this point. But I am curious as to what else is out there in this range that would be considered a good deal, or if these two are even considered a good deal. Thanks for any opinions and input you may have.

I have the Hiby R3 Pro (non sabre) and absolutely love it! The amount of features and sound quality, combined with it's battery size, is perfect for a portable audio player in it's relatively "budget" price range. It's 2.5mm output is plenty powerful enough to drive my Sennheiser HD-58x headphones and BQEYZ Spring 1 IEMs, and the 3.5mm drives the less power hungry Campfire Audio Polaris V2 with ease. I did find it necessary to modify the leather case I purchased with a NiteIze stainless steel clip and a couple small machine screws, though, for easier carrying. Feel free to message me if you have any specific questions or impressions about the player!

kfergusonI do appreciate your response and I am glad you are enjoying your Hiby. I have found that it is nearly impossible for me to stay within my budget. After reading many reviews ended up going with the Hiby R5. Just came today, still setting it up somewhat. Really impressed with the sound so far, but it has only been about an hour of listening. Thanks again.

I don't know much about current portable players. Battery life is important to me. The Hiby R3 seems to have nearly double the battery life (19h vs 10.5). Being batteries age, I would think about if 80% capacity (because of aging) would be acceptable. 8 hours would be my minimum but personally I'd buy something else. Premium audio has come a long ways making hi res more easily obtainable. I'd just make sure whatever you're getting has the features you're most interested in. Output power becomes important to me if I plan to use it as wired.
