Dog gear
more_vert
I backpack and camp with my dog regularly, we both love it. Any way we could do a drop, or multiple, that has some pet related camping and hiking gear?

If you have a good you must pick the gears of your dog so they also enjoy the life. The best portable dog fence reviews share a few fences which you pick for them.

My buddy is a puggle (read: 16lbs/no fat/short hair) I‘d be interested in something to keep him warm when I’m fly fishing, camping, etc. & it’s cold out. I was thinking of having an old wetsuit cut/sewn for him. Ideas welcome

Ruffwear palisades please!! I like it because you can detach the pack at the end of the day but keep your dog leashed.

Excited to announce that we will soon have Mountainsmith K9 Dog Packs! We'll keep looking around for other dog products to add to our Outdoors Community.

That's awesome! How about Outward Hound life jackets, etc.?

How about a custom sleeping setup for pups? Oval-shaped, with thin closed cell foam on the bottom, down baffles on top, a zipper around the whole thing, with a drawstring opening for my pup's head. Preferably less than ten ounces. I love my Boran Gear down jacket, maybe they could make something like this?
Right now my pup sleeps in an old synthetic North Face bag that I've sewn into a short, oval bag. It does the job, but it's pretty heavy and a bit of a challenge to get my trail hound into it.

Ruffwear has a whole set up - expensive but we've been using their products for years (packs, harnesses, life jackets) they hold up insanely well

That's a great idea! I did the same thing with an old Coleman bag I had laying around, but my pups 1/2 bag weighs more than my UL bag, would be nice to shed some weight on her 1/2 bag

Would love to see a dog mat for use when I go out with my hammock so Hodor would have something to insulate him from the ground.

I just cut a couple of older yoga mats into sections, then glue and stitch them together,(in a stack, not-edge-to-edge), and there ya go. They tend to be non-slip when damp,(for sweaty yoga use), and they are fairly durable. Shoot I even have one I use as a ground mat myself for under my sleeping bag, as it's fairly light-weight, rolls up easily, and is the right size for me.

I would also be very interested in dog gear - from packs to boots to life jackets to coats....they need gear for the elements too! :)

what do you all put in your dogs' backpacks? I usually keep Julius' food in my own backpack (partly because on most trips he needs more food than will fit in his pack, partly because i don't want it to get soggy if he goes wading).
It's usually a little Indiana-Jones-with-the-gold-head-and-sandbag balancing act every morning of trying to find stuff that will fit and balance well in the two sides of the pack.
What do you all store in these adorable backpacks?

I do the same. I carry all my dogs' gear, and they carry all of our water, plus potty bags, and trowel. One of my pups likes to lay down in water, so everything in his pack must be OK to get wet.

Water.
My dogs aren't very big,(except for one, my pound-girl ChowXShepherd), so they can't really contribute to big item carries anyway. I'm more into halters with handles on top so I can hoist people if I have to.
But, boy, I'm NEVER EVER cold at night. You can fit at least 2 terriers into a sleeping bag with you if the need arises!
