1937 Was One Hell of A Year!

Or so I've read--I wasn't actually there. Neither was watch historian and designer Dan Henry, but there can be no doubt that his feeling for the era was the motivation for his newest watch series called the "1937" If you're a fan of Dan Henry watches, you know that each watch in his line is designed around the influences common to watches of a particular era, and as such each model is simply referred to by that year. Today's release harken's back to the world's pre-war hopes and aspirations: Howard Hughes set a new speed record flying coast to coast in just under seven and a half hours and the Golden Gate Bridge officially opened to traffic in San Francisco. So what did Dan Henry create to memorialize that hopeful period? It seems to be a dressy tool watch, or a tooly dress watch--I can't decide which. What I can say is that each version features Seiko meca-quartz chronograph movement with sub dials arraigned either horizontally or vertically depending on the model, all surrounded by a fixed, tachymeter bezel. Perhaps the most important feature to many of the you will be sub 39mm case (I can just picture all the skinny wrists waving in the air now like that seen from Purple Rain)! Straps are strictly leather, of course--no fabric or metal bracelets are offered in keeping with the era and motif of the watch.

What do I think? I hate them of course--I'm not into dress watches and 38.5 mm watches look like bottle caps on my large manly wrists. Don't get me wrong; I'm not anti-Dan, it's just that I've never found one quite right for me. But, you? You on the other hand, are going to love them! Did I mention they're priced at only $270? It's true. And included in the price are two quick detach leather straps, and a watch roll! Wanna see more? Here's a painfully drawn out review from a guy who's never at a loss for words, and who's also the owner of two of the skinniest wrists in the watch game today--Mr. Urban Gentry himself:

Seems like a lovely watch I'd love to own, but would seldom wear. I'm still tempted by the 60's-inspired sport models, though.

jaxtrauma Didn't want to bring up any negatives! True--Amelia lost her way, and the Hindenburg had a bad day in Lakehurst, NJ. It's a tuff world out there ;- )

RayF Like so many 'unsolved disappearances' its pretty easy to guess what happened to her: her plane crashed in the South Pacific, she and it are probably at the bottom of the ocean. No big mystery really. I've heard over the years about 'clues' but it seems doubtful to me that she survived the crash. Now I'm wondering how history will remember 2020. I know it will be in perfect hindsight ;-)
