Been enjoying the pack so far, but want to ask if the 'removable backpad cushion' is supposed to be a thin packing foam sheet. It looks rather cheap and not something I have seen before in other packs, but I would understand if that's intentional to minimize weight from wrapping the foam in a fabric cover.

The back padding is a sheet of 6mm closed cell foam. It's pretty similar to what other brands use. For example, ULA uses I think the exact same thing in several of their packs, while HMG does as well (but you can't see it because it's non-removable). We could use thicker padding but it's a weight trade-off where you don't get that much further improvement in comfort if you go substantially thicker. Some companies do use EVA foam which does feel a bit nicer - and we do use that in the hipbelt padding - but it's substantially heavier (about 2x) so it wasn't viable to use for the entire back. Similarly a fabric cover on the foam would increase weight but not improve function because the foam is already inside a fabric sleeve.
