DOXA Sub 300--Cure For the Common Submariner Homage?

Every now and then (quite often, actually) I run across a member-comment indigently decrying the outrage of some watch "X" looking similar to some other watch "Y." Overlooking for the moment that nearly all watches are round and most divide the dial into twelve equal segments, and that almost no one complains about those similarities, the most commonly complained about similarities are those attributed to the iconic Rolex Submariner dive watch. "It's a fake Rolex!!!" they shout from the rooftops whenever they see any black dial surrounded by a rotating bezel--as if they'd just discovered Vladimir Putin himself attempting to tip the scales for trump in the 2020 election! Yes, we know what Putin is up to, and yes, lots of watches look similar to Submariners, Seamasters and dozens of other watches--because those designs have become the defacto designs for a group of watches intended to do the same thing--dive under water and track the time spent there. If there was a better design for doing that, don't you think someone would have invented it by now? Well possibly. Take the new DOXA Sub 300 release, if does most everything a Submariner does without looking anything like one (or costing like one).

I have no issue with any Rolex or Rolex homage design, but I'm also open to alternative ideas, so long as the different doesn't get in the way of the function the item is intended for. In this instance, it looks like the DOXA has achieved more than enough difference (no one is going to confuse it for a Rolex homage), while still maintaining all of the function required from a serious dive watch. Now truthfully, this isn't an entirely new watch, DOXA has been around for some time. This is a refresh/relaunch of the classic DOXA with a twist--they're available in several color-ways that I say actually adds to their functionality. The only drawback I see is choosing which color, strap or bracelet combination you'd like most. I'm a little torn between them all, but I'm leaning towards the Auquamarine dial on the Beads of Rice bracelet above. How 'bout you? rsallen True--right up to the point where they went out of business in 1980. Like other Swiss mechanical brands effected by the quartz revolution, DOXA fell on hard times and went through a series of owner and management changes. The DOXA of today is the latest iteration of the brand. Hopefully the newest owner will have better luck. More details about DOXA and it's history here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doxa_S.A.

jaxtrauma You boat will float a little higher once you shovel out the two-plus grand they're asking for one. Still, it's better than $14,000 for the Sub ;- )
