So I receive an email from Dan on 07/23/20 stating that stakes were going to be upgraded on all of the new x-mids being ordered and shipped. I just finally got my tent in the mail today, but did not receive any of the updated stakes - just the standard shepherd hook style ones. Not sure how the whole customer service thing works here on Drop, but I thought I would send it out to the internet abyss to see if anyone noticed this as well?

That was my mistake. We are working on revising what stakes are included so there is a mix of ti shepard hooks (4) and ti V stakes (4) instead of all 8 being shepherd hooks. The V stakes aren't really an upgrade (both styles are ti and cost about the same) but they do work better for soft soils, whereas the shepherd hooks are better for firm soils, so having a mix of stakes can be better than all the same style. When I sent that email I was mistaken on which production run that change was in effect for (I thought it was for this batch but it is actually the next batch due around the end of the year). My apologies about this. If my email affected your purchase decision, I'd be happy to send you 4 of the V stakes (send an email to dan@durstongear.com).

Thanks Dan. I really appreciate how much you engage on these forums, your deep knowledge of available options, and willingness to give actual links to products. I've ordered the DAC ones - they look like they are the ones used on my REI QuarterDome 2P SL, which are surprisingly great. And I ordered the ZPacks carbon poles you talked about in another thread, for when my wife uses this tent. Ok, I'm now off to cut a groundsheet, using the specifications you helpfully posted in another thread.

dandurstonDan, I bought this tent prior to knowing it was getting some upgraded stakes. I think i bought the tent back in May and the email came out in July. This did not sway my purchase, it did just get me a little more excited as I do camp in some softer ground in the PNW and found that a balance of stakes was a great idea. I am fine with the stakes that are provided and have other stakes I can use as well. I guess this is just a case of getting one thing and expecting another. No biggie, just wanted to check. Thanks!
