How do the straps compare to the style of straps zpacks and other backpack manufacturers use? In terms of comfort

The straps are pretty normal in terms of padding for a lightweight pack. Pretty typical width. Maybe a bit less thick padding than some lightweight packs but similar to most. Compared to a traditional/heavier pack the padding would certainly be thinner. The idea is partly that the weight should be on your hips, but also that it's a pad designed for lighter loads (e.g. 20-30 lbs) so it can handle 40 lbs without breaking but the sweet spot is those 2-5 day trips with a lightweight baseweight so you're at about 20-30 lbs total. I also note that this pack does have load lifters, unlike many ultralight packs. That pulls the weight closer to your back and helps shift it onto your hips, so there's less need for thick shoulder straps. But again, the padding is pretty normal for a lightweight pack. I think HMG, ULA etc all use roughly the same thickness.
