Nineteen years later

and this country remains the global beacon of freedom and hope. No matter what, no matter how things look, we're still the best hope for democracy and human rights, and we're getting better, as a nation. We have a long way still to go, but I have faith the USA will eventually reach true equality among all of our people. I for one thank the Lord every day that I am able to live here.

@jaxtrauma I couldn't agree anymore with you. This country is amazing in so many ways, and no one should ever be afraid to say it. I know I'm a little late on posting in this, but I love the optimistism. 🇺🇲

jaxtraumaSounds like an interesting fella, I miss that stuff too. When I graduated HS I moved in with some random dudes I found on craigslist after I got kicked out of my dad's place. Ended up being the coolest guys I've ever met, one of them was in school for liberal arts, and we would always discuss whatever he was learning about at the time while rippin the grav bong 😄. I feel like I got a degree for free. He's a drummer too. Nowhere near as good as your buddy, but we used to jam out all the time. Good times indeed. Glad to meet you you too mang! Never stop learnin! 👌

America is not a global beacon of freedom or hope. Only Americans are delusional enough to actually think this about the USA.

Anyone who thinks Brexit was a good idea is probably someone you should avoid listening to at all costs. It's probably the only act of self sabotage that surpasses electing Donald Trump in stupidity because the effects of it were permanent. At least Trump will eventually die.

AindriuB Dude I don't let anybody pick my friends for me. I try to be open-minded, unlike 'liberals' and leftists...wait, same thing.

Instead of squabbling about politics, I believe we could all benefit from the notion that this was intended to be optimistic. We should all strive to do better, encourage empathy and help one another. This post is a stern reminder that life can be cut short without warning, and may it serve to illustrate that for everyone: not just the Americans who lost their lives and loves, but for anyone who has ever been caught in the atrocities of the world. Be good. Stop fighting. There is no reason to squander your time in such ways.

postwarscarsThere is reason, when, while the OP is clearly trying to be optimistic, they're attempting to put words in the mouths of everyone else in the world by claiming that the US is the global beacon of freedom and hope. That simply isn't the case. The whole world wept when the towers fell because of the tragedy, not because it was an attack on what we believe. We stood in solidarity with the USA because of the atrocity, not because we owe the USA any gratitude as a beacon for hope.

davbrenMy point is that you don't have to believe in everything someone says to still gleen value from it. Instead of attacking the notions, use it as an opportunity to reflect rather than belittle. There is no reason to behave negatively in this situation, the intent was not to start an argument. No one had to interject their opinion on the matter, but they did, and it's both childish and unnessecary. Respect each other a little more. Take a little less offense. Try to understand how to be positive. It sullies the very things we, as people, strive to maintain in this crazy world.

This post started as a simple tribute and a statement of hope in the future of the USA. Some people however have decided to inject a heavy dose of politics in it. What the hell is wrong with everyone. Why not leave it as "Never forget the fallen" or the something like that. Grow up children.

Of course dude. I too hope in a better America where people decide to use their brains instead of just believing what they're told. The trick people, is to LEARN FOR YOURSELVES. GROW A PAIR AND ARGUE WITH YOUR OWN BELIEFS. That is how you mature and learn.

TheOneRawr Yep, I just wanted to remember the fallen and let the rest of the world know that the terrorist strikes at America did not work: We're still here!

Equality? are you sure you know the founding fathers were slave traders and tax evaders?
jaxtrauma

needhelp You do know that was over two-hundred years ago, right? We made slavery illegal in 1861. We evaded those taxes because there was no representation. England didn't want to assign reps. We had a tea party to make our point.

Look at this amazing moment of healing and leadership by George W Bush. Our current president isn't capable of the compassion and empathy that W showed after 9/11. Most disturbing is he can't even understand why compassion is important. If fallen soldiers are "suckers" and "losers" (this story was confirmed by Fox News) then what are firefighters and police officers to a man who doesn't understand the value of service?

andrewdavis7 Let's not get too crazy--GW Bush is also the guy who got us into the longest and most baseless war in our country's history--the one we're still fighting.
