simeonall are easy to drive from mp3 or phone, except the hd600 and hd650, they are for home use mostly. m100 and m40x are close headphones, so people will not be able to hear what you are listening to, easy to drive, those are better for traveling. the rest are all open headphones. if you like rap, hip hop, bassy music I would go with the m100 as the best portable. m40x is more neutral, they are good for vocal. all the sennhiser above are open headphones.

simeonI will second the Sennheiser HD598 as a good, easy to drive starter pair of headphones, or else the Audio Technica M50x might be a little cheaper and also easy to drive. I haven't found anything as simple as those for a starter set.
The M50x will be closed and will leak less audio in and out but may overheat your ears after a while if you wear them for long periods of time.
The HD598s are open so others will hear you if you crank them loud or are in close proximity, and will leak sound in, but supposedly they will have better separation and soundstage than a closed set of headphones. A basic DAC/amp like a schiit Fulla or a Fiio (just about any that are both DAC and amp) will get you started right and you can go up from there as funds allow. Do check out head-fi for reviews, suggestions, etc on headphones, amps, dacs, and any other audio questions you have.
