What would you recommend for a first mechanical watch under 100 (ish)?

more_vert
I've been looking for a first mechanical watch for a while now and would like a few ideas of what a great first watch would be.
  • I dont care if its manual wind or automatic
  • Prefer leather or fabric straps (not metal)
  • Under 45mm
  • Relatively simple dial (no chronographs)
  • RELIABLE AND LONG-LASTING (or easily replaceable movement)
  • Something I can dress up or down easily (hence simplicity and minimalism)
EDIT: Bought a Seiko SNK807 :)

I'd recommend something from the Seiko Prospex line. They're well made and in my opinion, dive watches can be dressed up or down, depending on the model. Prices range from $200 (Korean made) to $1500 (Japanese made) and $4-5K for some of the special editions. Maybe not as refined as some Swiss watches but they're good value for the money and a great way to get into mechanical watches.

Benslen15Thanks for the suggestion but those prices are double to 15 times my budget lol. Plus I've already bought a Seiko SNK807.

QwervySorry about that! totally blew right past the title where you said you wanted something under $100! Anything Seiko is a great choice on almost any budget.

mcloseWhat kind of seiko though? I've had a look on Ebay and there a lot but nothing that really stands out as an obvious first choice.
