best headphones sub 180$

more_vert
hello, I am a 16 year old with 180 dollars in Jordan looking to get into the audio world:) I spent months researching what headphones to get and I landed on those: beyerdynamic Tygr 300r (no amp) sennheiser 58x (20 dollar amp) audio technica m60x (over budget) now I don't have an amplifier yet and due to my tight budget I doubt I'll be buying a quality one. any other recommendations in my budget?

I prefer listening to my Edifier H850 through a basic amp/dac setup than my other better headphones through my phone :) It will also depend on the audio quality out of whatever you'll be using without an amp/dac though

phoenixsongOther than this plan (good dac & amp and a decent headphone), another way is to get a mobile phone with great audio (like the LG Quad dac phones), count it under your mobile phone budget, and use your $180 audio budget to get a decent pair of iems or something :p

Once u get in the audio game there is no getting out. I wish u well lol. For that money I would suggest the hd58x or the hd6xx. Add a headphone down the road.

dwane5even after knowing that I'll be using them ampless? I thought the 6xx needs alot of power to even sound right

First of all, Welcome! I have to admit to a little bit of confusion as you've listed 3 very differently purposed headphones.
  • Beyerdynamic Tygr 300 R - Gaming
  • Sennheiser HD 58X - Audiophile
  • Audio-Technica ATH-M60x - Studio
It would help if you could tell us what your main use of these headphones will be & how you plan to use them. Al 3 are relatively efficient so an external amplifier is not an immediate need. Will these headphones be for home use? For travel? For gaming? Multi-purpose? I'm going to take a wild guess & say that since you're 16 years old, gaming is probably going to be a part of your usage & that you really need a multiple purpose headphone. I apologize in advance if my assumption is wrong! If I am correct, the new Drop + Sennheiser PC38X is probably the best choice for you. Another option is the older Drop + Sennheiser PC37X model which will leave you plenty of cash to purchase an amp at the same time. A PC37X along with a SMSL SAP-1 would be a perfect option!

MaverickAHwell music and gaming as you guessed. I play valorant and csgo and so imaging is important to me. but most importantly is music I mainly listen to rock, rap, alternative, indie rock and some classical here and there. a main focus of mine is vocals as I love and I repeat absolutely love a headphone that makes the artist come alive.

Ill do an even better recommendation, sennhiser pc38x, they just launched, but there a ‘gaming’ headset. Watch z reviews review on it, he goes through it all. If you took the mic off (which sadly you can’t) they would be really good headphones for music, movies etc...

I can make a easy recommendation, The hd58x from seinheiser they're amazing for music and games. if you're from Australia though you cannot get them imported in anymore for some reason
