Is it normal that the new Switch puller that comes with the Drop CTRL can't pull switches?

more_vert
I just received my CTRL and so far I love it! The only issue is that I can't seem to be able to pull any switches with the included switch puller. It looks different than the pullers I've seen in reviews of the keyboard. The ends of it are angled outwards and can't seem to grab onto the notches in the switches. No matter how much force I put into the sides, it keeps slipping off. Is this normal or am I doing it wrong?

I scratched the plate while trying to pull out the switches (Halo clear) with the included puller. My switches are pretty snug! Not impressed at all that my "less than a week old" keyboard has been scratched and will be looking for an alternative switch puller.

Yeah it's a bad puller. Don't try to pull switches out with this it will only end up breaking the switches which happened to me last week. Get any cheap puller that has more of an 90 degree angle it will be much easier than this piece of junk!

I have the same problem as well. That's like the worst puller.

That's because that particular cap puller is meant to look cool and be cheap rather than functional. Just buy one from Ducky or Amazon with the two wire prongs (looks like a whisk). They're much better.

IniquityThe actual cap puller works great. It's the whisk variety of pullers. It is the switch puller that is pretty useless.

Get the one from Amazon that’s used for ICs green handle.

steffi2Yup, that's what I ended up doing. Works great!
I used mine to swap all the switches on a CTRL so it does work... not the most elegant solution though

quicklytoo4Worked for me as well. Took some pliers and bent the angled pinchers in just a tad bit more and it worked. Still a POS though.

dmihovilovicI'm not expert but that looks like it'll damage the switches with by scratching them or worse, squashing them!

Mo_AKThat was my concern when I thought about it. But it does not scratch at all and it's a great tight locked grip. I highly recommend it: https://www.milwaukeetool.com/Products/Hand-Tools/Pliers/Long-Nose-Pliers/48-22-3506
