PotatoProphetThis is a non standard layout and is not manufactured. So you would either have to get a custom pcb manufactured (Very expensive for good quality from my understanding) or wiring it by hand. 40~ gateron switches cost $10-12, a teensy 2.0 micro controller is $16 (https://www.pjrc.com/store/teensy.html), the keycaps as seen in the photo are $50 for the alphas and $7 for the mods (http://www.maxkeyboard.com/max-universal-cherry-mx-translucent-clear-black-full-keycap-set-front-side-print.html, http://www.maxkeyboard.com/clear-translucent-cherry-mx-blank-keycap-set-for-esc-w-a-s-d-or-e-s-d-f-and-arrow-keys.html), Then you have to make some sort of case, you have a few options here, you can just use two plates separated by standoffs or enclose it but it depends on where you live and what material you use how much the case will cost. you can just use a scarp piece of metal I recommend just using a side panel from an old pc case. If you want to add led lights per key you have to add another matrix which means that the teensy 2.0 might not for (adding led strips works well and is much simpler but doesn't provide such a good result. And for actually wiring it up you need a soldering iron, solder, assorted wire, diodes for each switch to add nkey roll over to the matrix. All in all it's an expensive little board. And of course the time it will take a while. Hope that helps i might do a small production run of these <10

PotatoProphetThe number of keys doesn't equate to the value of the keyboard. It's very dependent on features and functionality.
ChuckDeeYes ChuckDee, I agree!

PotatoProphetedit ( coming off a little cocky here sorry )
The number of keys do have a lot to do with the cost, let's be real. The size of the PCB affects cost, especially since you can get more per run with a smaller board. The teensy is not going to change with the size of the board, so saying more features makes a more expensive board is an overblown claim. Switches + LEDS make up a big portion of the cost. Yes the price will scale non-linearly with the number of keys, but there is still a strong correlation. Now to claim that this board is super niche and won't be able to pull in the right numbers to bring cost down is maybe more to the point.

refactorizedBeing real and having built custom keyboards- not as much as you'd think. MrBishop just dropped a 35% and it was $120. That's at cost.

ChuckDeefair enough, but re: features and functionality - unless you are looking to offer something vastly different than most single/no color keyboards with usb, we are looking at the same things being laid down on the PCB - the price has a lot more to do with number of units than features - unless I am missing something

refactorizedSmaller PCB, more intricate traces. My plates for my latest <60% (kb45p) was the same price as my plates for my 87key. The only thing that I would agree scales is the number of switches/caps- and that's questionable, as, for example, finding caps for my kb45p I had to spend more on granite than if I'd been using a TKL.
