Headphone + AMP/DAC - Can someone give me a recommendation?

more_vert
Hi everyone, this is my first post here. I would like some help on finding a pair of headphones and AMP/DAC. I would like open-back headphones (i already own a pair of ATH M50x working just phine but like 8-10 years old and i dont have any DAC or AMP) and i have 500 € budget approximately. I looked many reviews and at the moments my preferences are Hifiman Sundara, Sigva Phoenix, Sennheiser HD6xx or HD660s (wich are at the moment at 330 € on amazon) and maybe AKG k712 pro. I also have in my mind the Topping DX3 Pro and Xduoo XD-5 Plus. Those are very differente, xduoo is portable, and i dont really care about if its portable or not. What would you recommend to me? Are this good options? Thank your very much for the help.

My personal recommendation would be to go for a HD 6XX with the modi/magni combo as a dac/amp. It's a lot of people go to when they recommend a headphone and dac/amp to someone that's newer to audiophile. For choosing a headphone it really depends on what you want in them. If you're looking sound great soundstage and imaging then I would probably look else where because the 6XX does not do either very well but if you're looking for a great pair of headphones that are pleasing to listen to, preform well above their price, and are comfortable then the 6xx is a good pick. The 6xx's bass is also decent but it's by no means a headphone that's for baseheads. Like I said before, it really depends what you're looking for in the headphones.

I currently have the Sundara, they have amazing and clear sound. The Sivga Phoenix are supposed to have a similar sound signature, not sure, I don't have those. The Sennheisers you're mentioning have different sound so it's better if we know what kind do you prefer. Sorry, I forgot about the DAC/Amp... I love Shiit, the Magni 3 and Modi are a great combo I have those and in the future if you want to expand or upgrade is easier than having all together. Edited: Added DAC/Amp recommendation
