Wrist Check

Six days to Election Day, six more days of American watches. Coasting through ‘hump day’ with this ‘40s Helbros on a period ‘Bonklip style’ bracelet. I do enjoy the lengths watch designers go to to create a unique looking watch. Case in point, these beautiful lugs. Complaining about it doesn’t count, but voting does. GO VOTE!!

Very cool! I posted a wrist check today of this Helbros pocket watch, don't know much about it though:

PhlyVery nice and in great shape. I started the ‘Only American watches until Election Day’ effort with another old Helbros and at the time thought, ‘what a great American Dream story, William Helbien and his brothers’. That article got it right, I have seen references elsewhere that refered to Helbros as standing for ‘Helvetic Brothers’ As opposed to ‘Helbien Brothers’. They may be a forgotten US watch company, but they were quite successful in the first half of the 20th century. They had factories in the US and Switzerland and even took advantage of US govt incentives and opened a factory in Germany after the war. In addition to making some real quality watches, they gave companies like Ingersoll and US Time a run for their money in the inexpensive ‘dollar’ watch market.
