Drop Alt Keyboard randomly inserting periods

more_vert
I received a replacement Alt keyboard about 2 months ago because my last one died. Now this one is randomly inserting the period character when I press the space bar. Has anyone else experienced this issue? It's becoming so frequent that the keyboard is barely usable. Are there any software / firmware patches I should try applying or is something probably broken on the hardware side?

Well, I just examined all my switches, found nothing, and took a break. I noticed the issue was happening on my built-in MBP keyboard and found this article- https://www.idownloadblog.com/2016/12/19/how-to-stop-your-mac-from-inserting-a-period-when-you-double-press-the-space-bar/. Looks like MacOS was inserting the periods. Thanks for the help here and sorry for the confusion!

What Eric said. I would check for physical issues before trying software changes. Open up the back/bottom of the keyboard and check for issues. If you post an in focus, close-up, and well-lit photo of the underside of the PCBA at the problematic location, I may be able to help diagnose.

If the spacebar switch is chattering (outputting multiple character per press), try swapping it with a known good switch and note if the behavior follows the switch or remains in the same location. If it follows the switch, replace the switch. If it remains, try updating the firmware. https://drop.com/talk/9382/how-to-configure-your-ctrl-keyboard/2486201

I swapped this out with a known working switch and it fixed the problem. Thanks for the help here, Elbert.
Are any of the pins bent on the switches for that row? That could cause a short. https://drop.com/talk/10343/how-to-configure-your-alt-keyboard?utm_source=linkshare&referer=BPKDQH Tagging @Elbert so we can help diagnose the problem
