oh yeah and quick question, does the arya cable work with the clears? i know the connectors are different but also that they fit some focals, question is, how loose are the arya cables in a clear, could you try it out for me real quick? im buying XLR's for my incoming arya if they happen to fit both headphones because like i touched on, i will let one of them go but i kind of want to get the cable buying overwith, im also looking for xlr male to female 3 pins, know of any good places? thanks!

StopItGetSomeHelpYes, the cabling between the Clears and Aryas is the same, which is convenient. Clears and Aryas. Different animals, both very good. And therein lies the rub. I still try to anchor myself in the hi-fi thing - that we can get to a high fidelity reproduction of a recorded event. I'm listening for sonic palpability. We're still a way from this in so many ways, but audio has gotten MUCH better than its ever been, even within the last five years. The price/performance ratio has gotten really good. So much gear circles around this hi-fi sonic bullseye with a different mix of sonic character, while still sounding nice. I find this variance to be fun. And to me, some gear is also just plain interesting and fun - sounds good, interesting design, fun user experience. Sometimes I just feel like listening with that grouping of gear, other times another arrangement of kit. In the case of the Clears and Aryas, they both are very good and in different ways. It's fun to swap between them. My preference does drift towards one headphone (and amp, and DAC). I do feel that the Clear is a better headphone than the Elex, but the overall performance of the Elex is still formidable. The Arya is much different from the Edition XX. Again, I got the Clears and Aryas after a lot of consideration to explore what the step up would bring. It brought better. Better value? Good question. The next move up - as opposed to sideways, which is a viable way to explore, too - is a big jump is cost, and one I don't think I'm inclined to do. Should I really mention which I prefer between the Clear and the Arya? I don't want to bias your experience...!

oh crap, ive got the exact same setup except instead of the Elex its the Clears. we are the same you and i. :)))))) The single reason for buying the Clears over the Elex being that the guys over at Europe have no chance what so ever to buy one, and buying used overseas was just not an option. oh yeah and i cannot for the life of me find my XLR male to female so im running unbalanced, are there a huge difference running balanced over unbalanced with our setup?

Yep, we are definitely thinking similarly. I just got a pair of Aryas. The Clears and Aryas had been two headphones I was especially curious about, and I finally got them. I would love to hear what you think after you have had some time with them (and I grabbed the Drop x Koss ESP/95X on the current sale + some Drop loyalty bucks; I just had to live with some electrostatic headphones for a bit).
tvr2500mwhoa alright! You too huh, see i knew we were me :))))) How do you like the Aryas? and my second question is, how do they stand against the clear?

Did you get the Ares II on Drop? I must’ve missed that (also missed out on the Airist r2r drop). Damn. Really want to try a ladder DAC, but they’re always so expensive. How do you like the Denafrips with the THX 789?

I agree. Lots of good choices out there. I’m enjoying the extreme clarity of my Topping D90, but I want an r2r DAC just to round out my options. The Ares II is basically everyone’s suggestion as it punches well above its asking price. I have a Standard Balanced DAC running to my THX 789 right now, and I’d be looking to replace that with the Ares II soon. How was the ordering process through Vinshine Audio? I’m always nervous ordering things priced at a different currency than USD even though I know it’s probably fine.

cflesuras3The Topping D90?! Perfect. One of the top DAC picks right now. I'd like to try one, myself. Yes, as I'm sure you know the Ares II is often held up as a foil/contrast to the D90, or other good chip DACs. The Bifrost 2 might be another; it is getting quite good reviews, too.

Same here ;-) I had to go with the Clear and Schiit audio. Great choices though, MD has something for everyone.

rastusYou think correctly, sir! ;) Yes, it is a fine combination. Each are very nice pieces of kit separately. Together they so work happily. It is amazing the performance of the gear for the money today.
